cheapo solution to non-charging tablet? suggestions?

I've a couple of tablets here that work but won't charge. 1 is a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7" and has a proprietary charge/data port. The other is a less popular make and has a plug a bit like an older Nokia phone. The socket on this is cracked and will charge if the wire is held at a particular angle.

I'm thinking of putting an external Li-ion USB powerbank on the back and running a couple of wires inside. A couple of questions:

If I leave the original battery in place, in parallel with the external unit, might it cause a problem with the charging circuit in the powerbank? Like drawing too much current.

The original Samsung battery has 5 wires, 2 black, 2 red and 1 blue (in the centre). I've charged it with a couple of leads connected to an empty powerbank case, connected to red and black, works fine. What's the blue wire likely to be?

I presume the rest of the tablet will be OK with a fully charged voltage of maybe 4.1V ?

The Samsung battery is 4000mAh, the other is 4400.

Can you take the device batteries out and charge them with another charger?

Have you checked the device charge port isn't just rammed with fluff?

Blue wire is possibly temperature sensing.

I can charge it with leads with croc clips, but thats not suitable for its intended user, a 3 year old. The charge/data port looks clean enough, no sign of fluff.
I'm mainly concerned with the possibility of overloading a powerbank charging circuit board if I piggyback it in parallel onto the original battery, or of damaging the tab's mobo (i think this is unlikely) if its left on charge from a powerbank circuit.

You won't overload the powerbank charging circuit it's got current limiting.

But you will be charging a battery instead of a cell if you use two parallel cells...given mismatching capacities it'll create all sorts of balancing and temperature issues.

Maybe hack the powerbank...remove the cell from that and take the wires from the old powerbank cell direct to the device battery.

What are tab's mobo?

If you short a lithium ion cell it can go boom so it will need to be a childproof solution.

Could you replace the powerjack instead? if you can charge by holding at an angle you should be able to find a replacement jack.

If not, you could make up a short cable with socket that sticks out of the tablet. Should be able to provide some support/strain relief around it with some hotglue.
