So my mother has got rid of Sky
And has asked me what her options are to get some channels.

I have no idea what's out there so what option are out there for free t.v ?

I see the sticky at the top of the forum about tuning in free to air channels on the sky box, do those channels work in Ireland without a subscription?

If so would that be the best option? Save changing equipment and stuff.

The Sky receiver without sub will continue to receive the FTA channels but they will be scattered throughout the epg, remove the card from the box if the sub is still active, to see what channels are available FTA.

Another option is a Freesat receiver which has a similar user interface to Sky, with all FTA channels in fixed order, single tuner or twin tuner recorder versions available. How many cables from the dish to the Sky receiver, 1 or 2, two cables from the dish required for the recorder version.

List of Freesat channels - http://www.tvchannellists.com/List_of_channels_on_Freesat_(UK)

A point to note, no Irish channels are available from the satellite dish when she cancels Sky, Saorview aerial and TV/STB required.
