    I recently found out about this course and it seems interesting and that it would be something I like and could be good at! I'm heading into 5th year and have done German since 1st year. I will be starting Leaving Cert Japanese classes in September.

    Questions for those who are doing/have done the course:
    What did you think of it?
    What kind of work do you do?
    Did this course lead to a career as a translator or interpreter?
    Did you go on to do the MA in Translation Studies?

    If you're doing Japanese, how much did it cost to study in Japan for a year?
    If I did Japanese for the Leaving Cert, should I take beginners level or intermediate?

    Another question:
    "This course allows specialisation in either translation or intercultural studies." Which one did you choose?

    I'm starting this course in September (hopefully!) so I can't answer all of your questions but I'll do my best to answer a few. I will be studying Spanish and Japanese.
    -The first thing you should know is that Japanese is only offered at beginners level, intermediate is not offered for either Japanese or Chinese.
    -I'm not sure about costs for the year in Japan but you do need €10,000 in a bank account to get a visa to study there.
    -You might be interested to see all the modules/subjects that are taught on the course. You can find them all listed here https://www101.dcu.ie/registry/module_contents.php?function=4&programme=ALIS
    -Graduates of this degree would enter careers in the fields of translation and interpreting like you mentioned but teaching languages would be another option. To do this, you would have to do the hdip.
