Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Like proper Super Sunday.

    TEAM NEWS

Arsenal summer signings Granit Xhaka and Rob Holding are expected to make their debuts against Liverpool but defenders Per Mertesacker, Gabriel and Carl Jenkinson are all injured.
Danny Welbeck is also injured, while Euro 2016 finalists Laurent Koscielny and Olivier Giroud are not match fit.

Liverpool may be without Daniel Sturridge and James Milner because of respective hip and heel injuries.
There could be debuts for Sadio Mane, Georginio Wijnaldum and Joel Matip.

6 pointer in the race for 4th, Liverpool to sneak an error riddled affair.

Probably less chances than in the corresponding fixture last year, but there will be more goals. I still expect Arsenal to win even with the cobbled together central defence.

Really should be postponed until next week or at least until Monday

really want a Liverpool win.... think it could happen... 1-3 - Mané, Firmino x 2, Sanchez

    Match thread ahoy!!!!!!!!!!

The opening games have thus far been pretty cagey for the most part, hard to see that changing tomorrow. Of course the fact Arsenal are so threadbare at the back means that even if they draw it'll be a 'moral victory' and a failure for Liverpool so we'd better make sure to win.

I'd be happy if Sturridge doesn't make it

I expect lots of pivots and vertical balls.

Liverpool won't be able to deal with our false centre half system.

    2-1 Arsenal ... Sanchez (2) . Mane

Twitter saying Sturridge not in the squad for the game. I didn't expect him to start anyhow.

Henderson/Wijnaldum and Milner/Moreno are the only decisions to be made I reckon.

    Mignolet
    Clyne
    Lovren
    Klavan
    Milner/Moreno
    Can
    Henderson/Wijnaldum
    Lallana
    Coutinho
    Firmino
    Mane

The relentless march to the title begins.

    2-0 to Liverpool.

Arsenal can't handle Liverpool's false LB system though.

Expect Liverpool win in this one. Arsenal are a mess at the back and Liverpool will overrun them in midfield. I'll go for 1-2 to Liverpool.

Will be a tough game but should be good for the fans. What a way to start the league.

Arsensl's midfield is the only thing giving me hope.

Arsenal at home never lose to Liverpool though. I would take a draw now myself. Tough start. I enjoyed the summer my blood pressure returned to normal, this football crack really gets me worked up.

Not great. I guess Henderson/Wijnaldum will both start then, unelss Klopp plays Milner in midfield if fit, which I hope doesn't happen.

Stuck a fiver on a 3-3 draw. Not sure about this.

Lucas out as well? I'd go with him if Can isn't fit enough.

Moreno has to start for me. Milner just cannot defend...from a couple of games I've seen of Liverpool (Roma and Barcelona), they should be a threat upfront, but look very suspect defensively, even in terms of midfield protection especially that midfield of Wijnaldum and Can against Roma.

cagey 1-1 draw for me too. First goal will be huge.

2-2, a result I think both sides would probably take if offered.

No, managers that win the BPL aren't false, especially 3 times, you should try it sometime

I'd take a point.....think Arsenal have enough to hurt our backline, LFC CB partnership is a bit of an unknown, not sure what kind of performance you'll get at LB but also sure to make a few mistakes in possession.....Think it'll be 2-2...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40,061 ✭✭✭✭Harry Palmr

If Can is out I would put in Stewart with Hendo and Lallana as a midfield three. They'll run and run and run and that may be enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,128 ✭✭✭✭Oranage2

Liverpool look like real league contenders this year , a draw would be a good result for arsenal , hope arsensl win but I can see pool winning this one .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,656 ✭✭✭DJIMI TRARORE

1st soccer post for me,THIS IS OUR YEAR,4-2 to the pool, both defences are crap and the Kloppmeister will go hell for leather at the gunners, who are so depleted at the back that i got a call from Wenger during the week !!!!!:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,366 ✭✭✭✭8-10

Henderson in for Can wouldnt be the worst forced move. Can hasn't looked the fittest in preseason.

I fear Sanchez against Moreno and Walcott against clone. I think that would hurt us big time. On the other hand our midfield and attack should be a lot for Arsenal to handle

Walcott is a busted flush. Anyway, will he be tracking back to support his RB?

Sanchez though is an unbelievably good player so he will need to be marked out of it.

    I say it'll be a pool win. 2-1 possibly.

I *really* hope not, but With The Gunners you can never tell!

As long as it's not a drubbing, I'll be happy enough. A 3+ goal score line for Liverpool would really f*ck up Holding on his debut.

    Pool win by a couple.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,466 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

If its all square when game end it will be a draw. Can see Liverpool winning though if they're leading when game ends.

'The Invincible's 2' starts here. Should be easily beating mid table sides like Liverpool at home.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,984 ✭✭✭Soups123

The issues in defence are just too big a handicap today I feel in addition to Ozil and Giroud out. I feel Pool will take this one.

An early goal for Arsenal could be key if they are to try win it. I think they'd need +3 goals to do that today

    Liverpool to win this one
