Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hello I'm looking to purchase my first tank.

I can get the Eheim vivaline 180 with stand, filter, light unit, heater, hood and 2 x T5 lights from my local under water world for €499

    Or

    The Juwel Rio 180 with stand, filter, 2 x T5 lights, heater €490 + €50 delivery.

Which tank would be the best most reliable tank for someone starting it.

There's little between them tbh, both are reputable manufacturers. Some people don't like the Juwel filters but I've never had an issue with them and like their modular design (e.g. it's easy to just upgrade a pump without having to replace the entire filter).

Have you had a look at the second hand market? It's a much cheaper way to get into the hobby and you'd get either of those setups for approx €200 if you look around (the rule of thumb for second hand tanks is €1 per litre).

I would probably go for the eheim, when my juwel filter broke I found getting parts to be a nightmare. Definitely look at second hand though too
