Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Wenger could do with making some subs here. Wilshere on for the ox, who seems a bit peripheral since half time.

Yep Ox ix invisible, some fresh legs wouldnt go astray

 Walcott is an attacking player and was placed in the box at the time so your defence if i could even call it that, is beyond baffling here? Yes Petr Cech didnt score the goal but thats because he was minding the net at the other end like you know... .a goakeeper does .

Walcott was free too but just stood there. if he was worth anything as a striker he should have been giving sanchez a better option of a cross. Thank god for ozil and his genius.

Walcott is in the box, which is a good thing. If he wasn't in there, you'd be moaning that he wasn't in the box like an attacker should be. He was hardly 'free' - he was our only attacker in there with about 4 defenders around him.

The goal was made by Ozil's run, and has nothing to do with Walcott.

Just waiting for the inevitable second now :(

Need to bring Coq or Elneny on soon.

I'm calling Gibbs on for Ox :D

Shocking there from Ox. Two men over and he tries a shítty chip from thirty yards.

Wilshere and Elneny on, Ozil and Ox gone, two good subs to make

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,012 ✭✭✭✭Alfred Borden

Think if we can get another attacker, Ox should be loaned out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,690 ✭✭✭✭Skylinehead

    Wow, got lucky there

Gibbs has been our close-out specialist the last year or so. Don't think we've ever not defended a lead when he's come on.

    Monreal injured...

Our right hand side is weak.

Cech has made some good saves in the second half

Why is everyone trying to lob Gomes?

Why is everyone trying to lob Gomes?

Because he's always a mile off his line. It's a good tactic, because our players forget they have teammates they can pass to.

What happened monreal ....? injured ?

Wilshere putting in the nice cynical tackle, really good to see him back playing.

How long was Wilshere on before he was booked?

    Chambers (1) 1
    Cazorla (1) 1
    Sanchez (1) 1

    Assists
    Cazorla (2) 2
    Iwobi (1) 1
    Walcott (1) 1

    3-1 ain't to shabby.

Great to finally get a win.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,984 ✭✭✭Soups123

Was good to see when we started to get bullied a bit we had what we needed on the bench, Wilshire and Eleny put a stop to it!

We've not ever really had that

You can see why Holding jumped straight above Chambers in the CB rankings. He's solid.

His weak point is his passing, from what I've seen.

    International break!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,456 ✭✭✭wonga77

Job done, comfortable enough but Id be concerned about how we slowed down so much in the second half. Watford made a few good subs but we seemed content that the game was won at 3-0. Xhaka got about his business quite efficiently, he seemed to fit in quite well. Cech made some good saves too. I think from now on that Ox should be restricted to second half appearances, just doesnt contribute enough imo. Walcott was ok but I still dont think he should be starting. Impressed with Holding too, think he's a star of the future

Would be nice if that final signing was Ricardo Rodriguez now, can't believe there haven't been more big teams in for him this Summer

For once it could be good for Arsenal with 2 new signings having time to bed in (assuming neither are in their national squads atm which I don't think they are) plus Giroud and co should be 100% fit by the time the next game rolls around. Obviously with Arsenal you gotta add the caveat once nobody gets injured but still

Wenger has confirmed Mustafi and Perez on Sky Sports. Says nobody else to come in.

sorry but i must be missing something - you say assists are in brackets and then list them separately?

edit: got it now. these are overall figures for all competitions and league stats in brackets...thanks!

Must admit, I haven't bothered with Match of the Day so far this season. Definitely watching tonight, though.

Watched the game in the golf club so wasn't here posting.

Very good games for Xhaka, Ozil and Elneny when he came in.
We are very strong in midfield. Hope Monrael is not injured. Santi and Sanchez were good today too and Walcott tried hard. Ox makes some very stupid decisions. Cech and the back four very steady although Kos jumping with his hand in the air late on was dodgy.

Very good day at the office but won't get carried away just yet. There'll be stronger opposition coming our way. Three points badly needed today so i'm very happy.

Job done today but the acid test will come against the other contenders. Few positives and a few negatives. We will only know if we have improved when these new signings bed in. Overall im not too optimistic for the season ahead being completely honest. Same aul shíte really, we plateau roughly around February. We might have a bit more depth to us this year but some dead weight still exists. If we are relying on them to show some balls and step up we'll be waiting.

Come on man, I don't even know why you bother. We've strengthened in 3 key areas. I don't know what this 'dead weight' is you talk about, but I think we've got good strength in depth.

No idea how you can say it's the same old after 3 matches, and I'd like to see evidence of the February plateau. Sounds like something you heard on Sky Sports or read in the mirror.

Great win, nice to have a few off the mark, let's not start going on like we're going to win the league now though after beating Watford

I have a much better feeling about things this season now that we have at least tried to plug the gaps.

    1. Mustafi and Holden look like good additions and leave us with great options if we have injuries.

    2. Xhaka looks good and Elneny and Coq are also good. I like Elneny's no-nonsense style of play.

    3. If Perez is a success he will be a big addition to our attacking force. He can play off Giroud or play on the wing. He seems fast and has an eye for goal. Our league will be a step up for him but if he starts well then he will be a success especially with Ozil there to supply him.
Would have liked to have seen a big name striker come in but maybe we signed one.

I didn't believe we would get these signings so i'm delighted that we at least have a fighting chance this season.

It remains to be seen how good these signings bed in. Ill reserve judgement for now on whether we are stronger or not. Id also question the fact Wenger has left until the third week into the season to get these players in.

We collapsed last season and also back in 2014 around February. How is that for evidence?

You rate Walcott, and Chamberlain and i have my reasons not too because i think lazy cowardly, weak-willed players like them would not be tolerated at any club with ambition of winning major trophies. They are dead weight. They offer nothing to the club and claim big wages. These type of jokers are everything wrong with modern football

But do you know what, maybe I am wrong and the last 10 years or so have been a figment of my imagination. Perhaps we have as Wenger has often claimed 'showed character' and havent bottled it on several occasions and perhaps the trophy room is absolutely heaving with titles  Everyone is happy. Until then ill remain skeptical.

I'm liking the fact Arsene went for a pacey striker like Vardy but when that failed he still went in after a pacey striker in Lucas.

It says to me that Arsene has a clear vision for the team.
I honestly didn't think he had and just signed players when they became available.

Buzzing after the 3 points tonight and two players in the bag.

I just don't see why you have to be so negative. We've lost a grand total of 3 matches in February over the last 3 years. But sure, if you go into each season with the attitude that we will have a poor run of form sometime between January and March, you probably won't be disappointed.
