Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Evans would be just another Welbeck. Cheap, available and average. It's about all we'll get.
Just another cheap option. Nothing world class.
We'll always be a few players short of a EPL winning team under this regime. That's if we buy anyone at all which I still doubt and have no reason to feel optimistic.

I'm definitely a spend the fcukin money man and a pay the €5m on top Prem fee but I'd have no concerns with Wenger pulling the plug if the only way is to pay €50m he is worth nowhere near that

    I'd rather Jonny Evans

It's his fault the price is €50m!

Also, you don't think WBA won't pull the same trick? We have zero leverage and at this point I can't see us getting anyone.

Don't worry guys. Signings on the way.

    The alternative is unthinkable.

Do you think Mustafi is much better? Do you think €50m should be spent on him?

Gary Cahill is was very much a Jonny Evans type signing they have struggled to find better

I don't know anything about him.
I just said that we will buy the cheapest CB available IF we buy at all (he wasn't great at Utd hence they sold him).
We do need another quality CB as you know and a WC centre-forward who will get 20 plus goals a season. We won't buy him either imo.

Just read this quote from Lacazette

Alex Lacazette: "There will be no departure [this summer]. Everything is going well here at Olympique Lyonnais."

    Seems he's not moving.

21 years ago, we trebled our record signing and made Denis Bergkamp the best paid player in England.

Look what that did for us as a club.

    We need something similar.

mustafi in the valencia squad tonight

What do people think of Hernandez - like the ex-Utd one?

Ordinarily, when big clubs get rid I'd say not to bother.

But he's a very specialised type of player, i.e a pure finisher.

I mean he couldn't be less involved than Theo playing up front and with the chances we create, he'd definitely score ... a decent amount.

It'd be very like Eduardo pre-injury I think.

Chicharito would be a great signing, exactly the type of striker I'd love us to have, pacey, good first touch and he can finish. His link up play isn't the may west but I could live with that if it meant goals.

Lol, now I've just seen an ITK on Twitter say we've bid for Hernandez.

Class, was that from this thread? Is that how this works???

    Let's try another.

Grizemann was not in the squad for A.Madrid tonight. AND he's not injured.

This made me lol. Wenger telling people to chill out on transfers.

If Johnny Evans joined us, I think it'd be the end of me supporting the club under it's current regime. I honestly believe he is one of the worst centre backs to ever play in the Premier League, and for us to sign him would feel like a kick in the nuts to me.

Being honest, I'd rather stick with Holding.

Definitely not getting a striker now I reckon, hasn't even been any rumours in weeks.

John Cross saying we've made an approach for Marcel Tisserand. 23 year old CB from Monaco.

He's very much one for the future and a distance from the top quality CB we were hoping for.

However, that leaves us with more cash for the CF. The prices quoted for Mustafi and now today Evans are rediculous.

At this stage I don't think we will sign any more players even if they are required, and when the window shuts we will hear at the press conference that we have a good squad and strong togetherness and mental strength to finish in eight place and we will be injury free till next year and Theo and the other dead wood are getting new contracts for their commitment to the team and arsen is staying for another two years and the board believe that the perfect goal with all players touching the ball 3 times will be scored this year by sannogo and thank the fans for the loyalty to the ream.

I love the way so many Arsenal fans are on this 'groundhog day' vibe but reckon we're done as regards top 4.

Clearly, we're fine there. It'll all be grand lads.

Top 4 is not bad but its the way we seem to do it every year that annoys most. We either start off poorly due to the fact our manager gives key players extra time off and his unwillingness to sign players that are evidently needed, or we get a great start and are top by November, fail to win a game that month get our act together in December and January and are top again only to crumble and lose the title in the run in. Its actually so predictable which makes it even more infuriating.

The last 3 seasons its evident we need a striker why hasnt this issue been addressed?

    I reckon it goes

3 summers ago: added Sanchez and Welbeck
2 summers ago: internal solutions preferable to what was on offer in market
This summer: no excuses, striker badly needed and must be signed. Level of striker depends on market but someone HAS to come in.

Didn't Wenger pull Ozil out of nowhere on the last day of the window a few years ago?

I get the feeling the Arsenal have something really big on the go, something that will be as big as Ozil. No idea who that would be but Wenger almost seems too relaxed and spouting stuff about 600 employees etc seems aimed at riling up the fans and doesn't make sense unless he has a rabbit to pull from the hat.

But to me, it also shows that the window should close before the 1st weekend of the season.

I'm sure he does. The problem is that there's a big chance that the rabbit will get stuck in the hat.

Regards Wenger giving the players an extra few weeks off

With the injuries to some players in prem (loris payet etc)

I think he had been vindicated resting them

Add Ramsey too. I just hope he's not rushing them back now because the squad is thin and results aren't great!

Kos was playing through pain too.

Griezmann didn't play but that's cause he's in London negotiating a deal with us.

I'll be delighted if that is the case but tbh I don't think it's going to materialise.

Also why could we not do our business earlier and get the new signings up to speed in the pre-season to allow the team to hit the ground sooner. At the moment we have bled five points that we shouldn't have if the team was strengthened the right way.

The poor eternal optimist Arsenal fan in me is really hoping that Wenger has a master-stroke to pull and is just trolling the fans for the LOLs but I fear the reality is that he is floundering with the current seller biased market conditions.

I wouldn't be too worried about the 5 points, Arsenal have played Liverpool and the champions, so a pretty tough start. MU have played who ? Teams you would have expected to beat regardless of the new signings (I know they didn't last year but they should be beating those teams). Same with City.

If they have someone lined up (Griezmann for eg) they may forced to wait until the selling club is ready and there is little point signing someone else just to appease the fans.

MU and City both needed major surgery after what was a very poor year from both last season. Arsenal are not as desperate but given that MU and City have strengthened, and based on the first two games it appears to be working, I do think that Arsenal need to land something big in order to keep up.

The big elephant in the room is the mental strength of the team. Even great players such as Ozil and Alexis haven't been able to break that.

Maybe they were too busy winning a gold medal for their country in the Olympics? :P

I'd be much more worried about the squad than the five points.

Jose was given a decent team and a blank chequebook. Last time that happened, he got more points than the invincibles.

Our team needs to be strengthened because we're light, nothing to do with Man U or City. This league is probably unwinnable by us but that doesn't change the need to bring in a striker.

I love how desperation has turned people in here to suddenly start believing that because we've signed up til now, that it must mean who we are signing is one of the best in the world.

I'd be confidant that's not going to happen.

But if you take a step back from the Lewandowski/Griezmann Twitter fairy tales, we just need a competent enough striker or wide player who can score. Plenty of them about.

We may start wrapping our injury-prone players in cotton wool because there's no more coming in. I wonder if that's why they got the extra holidays?
    Only at Arsenal !!

How about we do a little forfeit for you?

If we sign one more player, you don't post here for a week.

Two players, you're out for a month.

Any more and you never come back? :D :pac:

Confident enough to not come in here every day saying we won't sign anyone else.

I think we will definitely sign 1 player, probably 2.
