Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Thats a huge couple of points.

Burnley will be snapping, they fully deserved a point today.

    What just happened?

Lol. I had koscielny for anytime goal scorer. Did I win my bet? Actually who cares. Great win against an extremely well organised Burnley. Very impressed with their defending. Sanchez up front will simply not work against well organised teams who are happy to concede possession.

    Edit: Yup, bet won!

    Not a bad return.
    Very happy

Absolutely ****ing delighted with that goal. Pure poxy goal but Burnley showed no ambition all game. So they got what they deserved.

If they deserved a pint it would have been a draw.

Harsh. They're a newly promoted team, a draw against Arsenal would be an excellent result for them and they were brilliant defensively for 91 minutes.

Fcuk it, we've been on the end of enough poxy goals so I'll take that one.

I agree, Burnley did deserve a point.
Just like Ireland deserved to go through against France a few years back

Rubbish, Burnley defended excellently until the last 2 minutes, Vokes flashed a great headed chance wide in the first half and they hit the crossbar close to the end. We found it incredibly hard to break them down

    No.

They were unlucky. Goal shouldn't have stood.

Point would of been a fair result.

I thank this man for the win:
Look where he is at the start of the corner

And look where he is when Sanchez put in the cross

Henry in studio this will be awkward.

Does the hand ball not have to be deliberate for it to be a free kick?

Yeah it might be harsh alright, but they played as negative as I've ever seen a team play. They're entitled to play that way alright, but as an Arsenal fan that's as sweet a finish to a game like that as you can get.

... although Kos was offside alright.

Not if he kicked it at himself :D

Looking at the replay, Ox didnt touch it at all, very lucky to have that stand

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,057 ✭✭✭FixitFelix

Honestly who cares if it was a handball

Picked Arsenal for my last man standing team this week.

I ****ing love Arsenal right now.

Surely if he didn't touch it, it's more likely to be legal? Koscielny kicked it up into his own hand, so definitely not offside and he hardly meant it...

haha fair point, on second viewing it does look like he kicked it and not Chambo.

Yeah but another ref could have easily saw that ball smack his hand and disallowed it

Last gasp but they all count. It seems Ox never actually touched the ball! Again league goal and assists in brackets, totals on the right!

    Ozil (2) 2
    Koscielny (2) 2
    Xhaka (1) 2
    Oxlade Chamberlain (1) 2
    Perez (0) 2
    Chambers (1) 1

    Assists
    Sanchez (2) 4
    Iwobi (3) 3
    Cazorla (2) 2
    Walcott (2) 2

Love the way he ruffles Alexis hair and the little child like delight on Alexis face as he receives praise from his auld fella.

Id imagine Wenger had the same level of pride in him with Sanchez that the Bull McCabes father had in Bull when he said 'we'll bring in the hay first'.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,828 ✭✭✭gosplan

    Haha, brilliant stuff.

    **** you Burnely!!!!!!!

Really though, a lot to deal with today.

No attacking sub on the bench vrs a team that have conceded 5 in their last 17 home games.

    5 in 17??????

People need to give up on being harsh on all the Arsenal players whenever it's not going perfectly.

Ozil wasn't sh1t, neither was Sanchez. There was just no space or options available.

Great ending though. Walcott getting on the corner to head it on. WTF???

    Pros:
Kos and Mustafi are ****ing immense!!!
Walcott with confidence is a joy to watch.
    Elneyney is class.

    Cons:
Still not convinced by Sanchez up front. Not all all. Play Giroud, play Perez.

Imaging a day where St Totteringham's day fell on the final day of the season (again) and we pip them to the title...

That was a tough game today. We controlled it as Burnley parked the bus, and a big bus it was.
Arsenal played well and as the saying goes " fortune favours the brave ". We kept on going to the end and eventually got a bit of deserved luck in that the ref didn't penalise Koscielney.
    Well done team.

    Don't agree.
The ball hit Koscielney's hand just as a little earlier it hit the hand of a defender. Neither were given as fouls. The ref couldn't give one as a foul and not the other.

The ref can do what he likes tbf

We were fortunate it was allowed imho

A hard 3 points today all credit to Burnley. We desperately needed a plan b today and didn't have one.

A smash and grab in the end but other seasons we would have gone home sharing the spoils, fair play to the team who kept plugging away.

    Why?

Why cos the ball connected with Kos' arms when they weren't in a natural position

    And he was offside afaik

Then he should have given the earlier penalty for hand-ball.
If you give one then you have to give the other.
If you don't give one then you can't give the other.
    Neither were deliberate,
I think the ref was right.

It's not about deliberate it's about the arms being in a natural position
Referees aren't always wholly consistent tbf

Koscielny : "Ref gave us the goal and we should respect the decision".

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,521 ✭✭✭✭mansize

Emmanuel Petit: "Laurent Koscielny's goal should not have been allowed. There was a huge infringement with his hand. " (SFR)

A bicycle kick and now kicking the ball off yourself and into the net, Kos has skills

The ball was on it's way to the net when it hit Kos's arm.
He didn't intend to hit it with his arm and wasn't even sure of where it was.
He wasn't offside as he ran in at the same time as Ox too.

Don't get me wrong I'm delighted it was allowed but by the rules of the game it should not have.

He wasn't offside because Ox didn't touch it but that ball was on it's way out for a corner before it hit his arm!!! :p They were poxed, but I'm delighted!

Still don't see anything wrong with it.
Ox's shot was heading for the top of the net anyway.
