    Ref was 100% correct.

    What, anywhere on the pitch?

So was this the first deliberate trip this season?!

Seems a little odd that such a big rule change slipped under the radar.

As I keep saying - there's rules for Arsenal players and rules for the remainder.
Referees rarely treat us the same as other teams.

    Did anyone read the link?

"Because Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain revealed afterwards that all Premier League teams were forewarned that a a deliberate foul with no chance of getting the ball is a sending off as of this season"

    That's in the link.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,711 ✭✭✭keano_afc

I guarantee there's no rule that says "a deliberate trip is a red card". Anywhere on the pitch? Only if the player is heading towards goal? Xhaka's foul merited a yellow card. Nothing more. The referee simply made a mistake.

Funnily enough I haven't seen anyone else sent off for the deliberate trips which stop counter attacks and result in yellows 2 or 3 times in every PL game this season.

But that cant possibly be the wording of the rule. Otherwise we're going to have 10 red cards a game if its enforced consistently.

Maybe so. I'm just repeating what they said.

This "trip" was different, it wasn't a shirt pull or sticking a sly foot out it was a calculated cynical slide tackle with no intention or possibility of winning the ball. Red is harsh IMO but it was how it looked rather than what it was that made the ref send him off IMO.

I wonder how different opinions may be if it was Walcott on the break getting taken out in that manner

In his own half? We'd all say it was a yellow.

Well look already it's different, when praising Xhaka it's "He stopped a 4 on 2" and "took one for the team and prevented a goal". Now when it's reversed sure he was in his own half?

I'm just saying it's not outrageous and people are easily swayed when decisions go against their team.

What about the Ivanovic one I posted? He had no chance of getting the ball there, yet I'd never say that's a red card. Sure, it's far less obvious, but even so.

I don't know man your link wouldn't work for me. I'm not saying it should have been red or that I would have given a red cause I wouldn't I'm just saying if he had pulled him down he would have been fine so it was a mistake to dive in the way he did.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,093 ✭✭✭gitzy16v

I thought it was red as it happened...looking back it seemed harsh...now with the ox stating the ref told them i can understand why it was red...
Anyway isnt it great that he wont be missed with le coq back, love this depth in midfield now.

Sigh. If Theo got tripped in his own half, it would be a yellow. I haven't reversed anything. I'm saying exactly the same thing.

How many 'should' we be beating this Ludgorets side by...4,5,6...7...
I'll go out on a limb and say a shaky 2-0 win.
    My team...Ospina,Gibbs,Kostafi,Bellerin
    Coq,Caz,
    Iwobi,Ozil,Ox
    Sanchez
I'd only leave Theo out to give the ox another opportunity to prove himself,I know I know he's had plenty.

I think Wenger will rest a few players. We might see Perez start and we might see Gibbs and Ox.

We shouldn't rest players , Win the 2 Ludogorets games we'll have 10 points and more or less qualified with 2 games to spare , We faffed around last year with changes against Belgrade or whoever it was and Olympiacos and paid for it by dropping 6 handy points

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,093 ✭✭✭gitzy16v

I'd love to see Perez start, just thinking he might not be the best option if Ludo put 10 behind the ball

We have a big squad with excellent players. The likes of Elneny, Perez, Gibbs and Gabriel should be starting on Weds

From looking at a few YouTube videos he seems to like having a pop from range as well so that wouldn't bother me. I just want him getting as many minutes as possible tbh, he looks a good player.

To be fair Liverpool are trying to give it a go but Jose has United setup to take a 0-0 draw if possible, brutal game

A nice draw will suit us the finest. Jose is a horrible spoiler. You spend 100m on one player and you still play negatively. Specialist in puke

When do we get a crack at them? We have to take him down this year.

    For the 10th time.

I'm just repeating what ox and the commentators said on Sunday.

Yeah, from everything that I've read and heard over the years, it seems like there's the official rulebook, and then there's the "unofficial" rulebook, with the unofficial rulebook being explained pre-match by the referee.

It's really just a clarification on what the referee is going to focus on, or what he's been told to focus on.

It's a bit weird that they don't just update the rulebook, but I think that requires more effort on their part, with committees and the like.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,694 ✭✭✭emmetlego

Anyway, enough of this red madness, what's done is done, and what's won is won, and what's lost, is lost and gone for ever. Sorry Phil Coulter. I couldn't resist!

Ludogrets. Should we play Perez, Elneny, Gabriel, Gibbs and Ospina? If so, for who?

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 15,001 ✭✭✭✭Pepe LeFrits

Perez for Cech, Elneny for Walcott, Gabriel for Monreal, Gibbs for Sanchez and Ospina for Cazorla :p

    Seriously though, all should play.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,467 ✭✭✭5star02707

Ospina is a sure starter when it comes to Champions League. El Neny could play but so as Xhaka since he has a 3 match EPL ban. Gibbs will play instead of Monreal

This is a certainty. I'd say Wenger wants to rest Monreal because he didn't look too sharp against Barrow on Saturday, how much of that was down to tiredness from a rare international call up, or down to a a lack of help from Iwobi is debateable, but his tiredness will be resolved either way.

I think it was just down to Monreal not being able to deal with his pace, he hasn't had the best start to the season Monreal, I'm quite worried to be honest.

Swansea wingers often seem to have field days against Arsenal. The horror show that was Montero against Chambers is still very vivid in my mind
