I would expect a better return this season, better squad and playing better than last season. It will be interesting to see the response when we get our first poor result. Spurs is the trickiest one in there. The Utd game is interesting, we should really be putting them away as they are poor at the moment, hope we can get over the Utd/Mourinho factor that seems to mess with the players heads.

With plenty of reinforcements who will be very fresh if called upon, such as Ramsey, Giroud, Gibbs, Perez, Gabriel, Elneny etc. November will be a tough month but we are much better equipped to deal with it this season than the last few.

Urgh, so just seen that Leicester v Palace is the 3pm kickoff on Sky this Saturday.

We seem to be seriously getting shafted on the TV coverage lately.

In fairness, Leicester are the league champions.

So, Mike Dean is the ref this weekend. Always get a bit more nervous with him in charge.

I hope you touched some wood there :pac:

It's nice alright although I'd be pretty worried if we suffered an injury to Kos/Mustafi or Ozil/Sanchez, as the replacements coming in haven't really proven themselves and they're so crucial to us. Our options elsewhere are great though, especially in midfield.

Supposedly ozil holding off until wenger signs.

Said it weeks ago, a lot depends on him staying.

Nope. They hold the good spots for the teams who will be involved in a title run in towards the end of the season. That's why super Sunday gone was Watford Burnley Southampton rubbish.

You can always get it through other means anyway ;)

And they wonder why viewing figures is down 20%.

More games than ever this season!

    Yeah Watford and Burnley wow.

Yeah, I never have issues finding the match. Call me old fashioned, just prefer watching in HD with my sky box.

Watched it on Setanta Go. They gave a good account of themselves

The past few games have seen some greT football.

Chelsea and Basel first half performances were as good as anything in years.

Last night Mustafi was barking orders about width. Great to see. I will forgive him the odd mistake but the best partnership Kos has had.

    Coq claiming back his place.

    Theo is a revelation.

    Long may it continue.

    We're unbeaten in seven games.

I'm not surprised you're not enjoying that.

Ah, the Arsenal thread. At times you can only laugh. As weird and argumentative as it is, I love it in here.

7amkickoff, guy that does the stats, was saying the CBs aren't all that great in the air.

Think he mentioned boro as team they might struggle with. Be interesting now to see.
Wouldn't mind seeing Perez starting either.

Can we at least all agree it's magic to be dying for the next game all the time again?

Love watching them at the moment.

It's all going well, a decent start to the season, not a lot of complaints, it's good.

Struggled very badly with crosses vs Swansea, lots of unchallanged headers in the box.

Hoping it's just a bad performance, be interesting to see how they do at the weekend.

End of the year for me. If he has a great year and wins something big then it's the perfect send off, if we win nothing and finish top 4 then it's long over due.

I still feel that Wenger doesn't (and won't) have what it takes to win the league, and when the pressure comes on, our team will be under prepared as they have been in previous seasons. Despite our current form, which seems to have swayed a lot of people's opinions, I think over the course of the season Wenger will still be shown up to be lacking in vital areas. This will inevitably lead to us not winning the title which is where I really judge Wenger.

Of course I really hope to be proven wrong, but history shows I won't be. I've more respect for Wenger than to see him leave mid-season so I'm willing to see him out till the end of the season, as was always my stance. I'm backing him 100% now, but I know we need better to get to where I believe the team should be and hope we can get that sooner rather than later.

You wouldn't want him to stay on if he won the league or champions league?

It's vitally important that Wenger keeps Giroud out of that side for the foreseeable future, 20min impact sub chasing the game or domestic cup games would be all I would use him for he slows up the side too much

    Nope.

Why not, who would you replace him with and what would you expect the new man to win?

Was only thinking about this the other night, our pace on the counter is unbelievable now and we seem a lot less predictable without Giroud in the side.

Because he's not the right man for the job, a couple of wins doesn't change that. As Quazzie said he's very unlikely to win the PL or CL this year especially when you consider 20 years of never winning the CL and over 10 of never winning the PL.

If he does win one of course i'll be delighted for him and the team etc. But it would also be the perfect send of for him because it's highly unlikely he'd have a better year and i'd like to see him go out on top as opposed to getting the sack etc.

Fair enough if it's a Groundhog Day Spring collapse, i just think's it's a bit bizarre in wanting a league winning manager out.

Also i'd have more faith in Wenger winning the league with this squad than i'd have in Kronke, Gazidis & Sir Chips Keswick picking his successor.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,690 ✭✭✭✭Skylinehead

A lot of talk about Ozil holding off on the contract until he gets assurances that Wenger signs. I'm all for him staying if that's the case.

So what just never let Wenger go depsite his shortcomings because you're afraid we might not pick the right replacement? That's not a very sustainable model.

Every manager has shortcomings. Wenger's are probably more identifiable than some others due to his length of time with the same club

If Barca, Real, UTD etc had a manager in charge for 20 years without ever having won the CL and a 10 year drought for the league, I mean I don't even have to say it he'd never make it that far. I understand Wenger is an exception for some people but there has to come a point where enough is enough.

You know this full well Ken but it appears that it needs repeating. Arsenal during that 10 year period were in a very different place than the clubs you mention. The new stadium build put a severe restriction on the club and based on the spend available meant that Arsene actually over-achieved in that time span. This was recognised by the board and many supporters. Not everyone though, unfortunately.
