Long story short my son is now using an old iPhone 4 as a back up until Xmas .
Both the power and home buttons are broken .
However up until 2 months ago my wife had been using it
We had been using the accessibly option instead of the home button
To switch the phone on it had to plugged in
To unlock the screen the mute button had to be toggled on/off
Now however the mute button no longer wakes the phone up to unlock the screen and phone has to be plugged in for that too!
I reset the phone before giving it to my son
Is there a setting that allows the mute button to wake the phone up ?

No, but getting those buttons replaced isn't expensive.

He broke the screen on his other phone so no money shall be paid for any repairs on either phone .
That was what was said to go when he got the Samsung 9 months ago
So he shall have to make do as is :D

Don't understand why the mute button when last used a month ago was able to wake phone up and now doesn't ?
If I can figure that out it will be fine to use
The mute button still works and vibrates but no longer wakes screen up
