i think id be DEVASTATED if my yorkies or if i was presented with yorkies that were uniform!
their supposed to be all bubbly and tall in places and short in places!

Will be interesting to see how they get them uniform. Looking forward to seeing the fillings. I think our whole family could live on Yorkshire Puddings! :D

    They'd better ring Aunt Bessie!

BBC lose the rights to GBBO to Channel 4 from next year.
Production company looking for a large increase in fee from BBC which they won't/couldn't pay.

If any of the 4 hosts leave the show is a good as dead.

Wouldn't be the same show at all. Fingers crossed they all stay

I can't bear the thought of ads intruding either. It's why the Irish Bake Off was shorter, I think. Disappointing news, I hope this isn't the end of it.

I so hope they don't go the TV3 route with it. I found that unwatchable. Special K challenge - UGH.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,457 ✭✭✭livedadream

if it does go, i can see product placement like the irish one, everything odlums, and like miss filthwroth said the special k challenge.

i actually dont watch the irish one anymore, its too short and the skill level doesnt come across coz the challenges are shorter

I saw a great tweet about the move to C4 this morning that really sums it up...

It's like your dad leaving your mum.
You'll still be able to see him.
But in a flat above Dominos.
With deck chairs instead of a sofa.

    :(

I'd have trouble imagining the hosts moving with it, tbh. They're all very attached, I'm sure, and would hate to see the format be butchered - and they'd hate even more to be complicit in it. Plus, I'd imagine it's more beneficial to them to be loyal to the BBC?

Either way, it's devastating that it's not going to continue as is.

isnt Mary under contract with the BBC?

i think that means she cant film with other networks...

I'm devastated to hear this. I really hope they don't butcher it.

It wouldn't be the same at all, they'd change the set and there would be ads. I hope it doesn't happen :(

Quote: We've had the most amazing time on Bake Off, and have loved seeing it rise and rise like a pair of yeasted Latvian baps.

    Devastated!

Thanks. I did catch the 2nd one in the end. Really enjoyed it, from beginning to end I just......smiled. Lovely lady and very much at ease as a TV chef and presenter I think. Thoroughly enjoying GBBO again this year, it really is anyone's game at this stage, plenty of time for mistakes!!

I loved the show too but I'm not afraid to say that I loathed some aspects of Bangladeshi culture. The whole "sad bride" crap and only showing their hair to the males of the family. Bleurgh.

Back on topic, I can't believe how bad most of the breads were in the signature bake. The majority of them were undercooked. I know they are under pressure but it was really, really poor overall. Some of them seem to have poor planning skills. Like, Rav played it smart with the smaller loaf, as did Andrew with the barm brack!

I don't think I ever saw season 1, so I may just go back to the beginning and watch seasons 1-6 all over again to get my fix! If Mel and Sue don't go, I really can't imagine Paul and Mary going. The charm of the Bake Off is the warm, supportive nature - without any elements of nastiness, pandering to an audience, or commercialism. I can nearly guarantee that that would all be lost without the current setup.

What a lot of underbaked bread tonight - it's a pity they don't give them a bit more time.

Well, as Rav demonstrated, there's plenty of time if you use your noggin. Some of them are just way too overly ambitious, consistently. You'd think they'd cop on!

I've already had one house fire, I'm a little afraid of vats of hot oil :D

Me too. I deep-fried homemade chips and onion rings in a saucepan earlier this year and was practically screaming in terror the whole time they were frying. Both foodstuffs came out delish but never again! Not worth it. :D

The Irish one was cancelled anyway.

I like Channel 4. They make some amazing TV, often better than anything the BBC can do. But I don't think Bake Off will survive the move.

Channel 4 used to be a great channel in the '90s but they've been nothing but a tabloidy, sensationalist nightmare of a channel since the start of the noughties and the rise of Big Brother (with the odd exception like Grand Designs). They'll wreck the show. But I think it only had a few more seasons left in it anyway. The Beeb got it in its best years.

    I agree, but.......that's....just about...the saddest thing I've ever heard! :(

Any ideas for replacements for the stars? I just don't want anyone else but I can see Channel 4 injecting Ant & Dec or James Corden, he turns up everywhere these days.

I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. I am sad that it's leaving the BBC because having ads will ruin the flow. However I'm not a fan of Mel and Sue so I won't be very sad to see them go.

I'll be heartbroken if Mary and Paul don't make the journey though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 22,777 ✭✭✭✭The Hill Billy

From what I gather - Paul is the only one who may move to the C4 show.

    As one commentator put it:
For £25 million, C4 are getting a tent, some flour & Paul Hollywood.

Is there anywhere online where we can watch back episodes? I only got into GBBO a couple of years ago and would love to watch it from the start.

Mr. Faith has a notion that he's financially involved with the production company, but I don't know how true that is.
