Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Vehicle export quotes

I've searched but can't find anything relevant.

Does anyone know of any logistics companies that specialise in vehicle exports? My family are emigrating and a quick check shows a VRT rebate in vicinity of €5,700 due. Thought I might get some quotes to take the car with me but my google searches have pulled up nothing. We're moving to New Zealand in case it's relevant.

    Thanks

There's a few members here in NZ, start a new thread on how to get car from Ireland to New Zealand, I think the import rules might scupper you over there though, so maybe sell it in uk after rebate.

    Thanks for the response.

I've had a look at the import rules for NZ and they don't look too onerous to me. Will look into export to UK however as might be easier. My car would be considered "high tax" here in the republic so would be hard to move locally. That's what got me thinking about taking with me.

I won't post a link here unless the Mods clear it but I have found one company who have quoted €4,000 for a 40 foot container delivered to Auckland. I could fit the car and the entirety of our modest belongings in that so it's looking promising.

I recall some years back looking to ship a car from Japan to Ireland and quotes were around €800-€1000 where the car would be left in Dublin Port for me. I'd imagine something similar as most boats and containers heading back east are almost empty.

The issue might be high import taxes in New Zealand.
However if you transfer residency, you might be exempt from those taxes. This however would be only possible if you don't claim VRT back in Ireland.

2013 Skoda Yeti. Nothing exotic but with the 2.0 and DSG gearbox it puts it in the €570 a year to tax which most people will baulk at. It's fully loaded high spec which is another reason I won't get anywhere near full value for it selling privately. OMSP on the VRT Export calculator is around 21,000 and I wouldn't get near that for a private sale.

No signs of any rust and in perfect working order.

I might reach out to a company in New Zealand that deals in imports to get some advice.

    2.0 diesel?
You will have to pay road user charges on top of the registration.

Thanks for the information. Appreciated especially from people already on the ground there. Quick correction, the diesel 4WD $172 as per the link attached.Still reasonable.

As for RUC charges. I hadn't researched that thanks. Looks like its used in lieu of petrol excises as a large number of diesel vehicles are used off-road in primary industries. At $62 per 1,000Km it would work out roughly the same as a petrol car would pay in excise. However it looks to be a bit cumbersome so I'm guessing the average road user would rather not deal with the hassle and just opt for petrol?

Perhaps exporting to a dealer up north might be the best option.
