Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ok so I just test drove a 06 318d. Car has FSH and few things done to it. Rang the dealer on service book to check and he said its one owner and backed up the service history and jobs done. Clutch, turbo, egr etc all done with main dealer. Has 182k klms all verified.
When I started it from cold there was a small bit of smoke but nothing I haven't seen from allot of diesels that vintage.
What do ye think? I will take the car to a mechanic for a once over too.

Vehicle was sold to someone on 29/03/2016 but notified to Dept Of Environ on 02/06/2016, seems odd someone would sell it on again that quick.

Dealer has an invoice from another dealer as proof of purchase.... maybe one dealer to another?
    Thanks for the information.

A diagnostic test would show up anything major?

Get in touch with main dealer and verify the services,a dn let a mech check car.
These two should mean car is in good working order. Mention the smoke to the mech, maybe they have a emissions machine they can check with.

Already talked to the dealer. All services and work done with them up until January of this year. Millage checked and all is correct.
Will definitely get the mechanic to check it out.

Dealer to dealer would show up as "car sold to dealer", this is saying "sold to an individual".

How would I find out which engine is in it? Is there a problem with timing chain failures on certain models?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,297 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

It's the old M47 engine with 122bhp in the 318d. The newer N47 318d engine with timing chain problems has 143bhp and was only sold from September 2007 onwards in the 3 Series.
