Would it be better to buy the phone at the airport in Dublin (duty free) if available of course, rather than getting it in the States?

never bought anything duty free in my life so not sure how it works exactly

Cheaper in the US. you just run the risk of customs. My experience is that I never had a problem with them but you just have to be made aware that they can stop you.

shouldn't be an issue if you use a case

*Spends nearly a grand on a shiny new phone that Apple went through a lot of effort to make which was shown in great detail at the event to be hidden in a case :pac:

Depends on the price you can get it for in duty free. You would be covered by Irish consumer law in the even of a problem with the phone, which allows you to claim for up to 6 years. If you buy in the US, you are covered for 1 year, and that is it. You need to add on sales tax (8.75% in NY), and allow for Irish customs @ 23%. I didn't bother 2 years ago, I waited until I got home, just wasn't worth the saving for me.

You're joking right?! You would want to have your head examined to pay €180 for these.

Really depends on the sound quality. If it is the same as the earphones Apple ships with the iPhone, the price is definitely a rip-off.

But if sound quality matches that price, 180 is not crazy for bluetooth earphones.

No-one can tell for sure at this stage, but since they didn't talk at all about sound quality I am not too optimistic.

Argument is slight flawed, the apple site in USA, adds the sales tax at the end, depending on which state you are in, 8.75% in NYC for example. Plus their VAT rates a much lower than ours.

There is still a slight saving though, but you'd have to be travelling to the states to buy it in the flesh and then take your chances with customs.

I will be in Austin Texas next month, 8.25% sales tax, but sure I will be wearing it when I go...

You add the 8% sales tax onto the website price, and that's your actual price.
Very similar to the IRL pricing.

PS. I done the same when I bought in NYC.

The adaptor comes with the phone.

I know, was just referring to their actual pricing. Any accessories are normally more expensive than that. If you have two set of headphones you might need a spare to keep on the jack at all times so your not needing to remember all the time.

It is a good price in fairness. I paid nearly 250 for jaybird freedoms a few months ago, and they are not as slick as the earpods. Although I can't see the earpods being great for during a workout.

Looks like the jet black ip7 could end up with swirl marks / hairline scratches in no time unless you baby it in a case which defeats the purpose of having that finish I guess. Anyone see how some tv's, sound bars and other appliances, even the original ps4 look crap after a few weeks. Same thing here I reckon.

"The high-gloss finish of the Jet Black iPhone 7 is achieved through a precision nine-step anodization and polishing process. Its surface is equally as hard as other anodized Apple products; however, its high shine may show fine micro-abrasions with use. If you are concerned about this, we suggest you use one of the many cases available to protect your iPhone."

Ah I seen what youy done there Apple.

The starter iPhone is now 32GB. But only €20 cheaper than the 64GB iPhone 6 I paid for 2 years ago. Bring back the 16GB I say. I was hoping the recent sales slump would encourage them to give better prices. Ah well.

The thing is these are Apple phones. There's no way they are going to be anywhere near the audio quality of a specialised earphone maker.

I'd love to be proven wrong when they are released but I'd say they are hugely overpriced for what they are.

The phones are getting to ludicrous levels of pricing too IMO and the watch was always overpriced.

despite it being the exact same size as the iPhone 6 that was release 3 years ago. failed attempt at a troll.

In need of a sense of humour are we?

It would be about €40 cheaper.
    Which is tempting.

If I was in the market for an Apple Watch and was heading to the States I'd definitely buy one over there. Close to zero chance of you having an issue with customs if it's out of th box.

I bought the original iPad in NYs Apple Store and took it out of the box before travelling home without issue.

This waring sounds a bit silly to me.

You can buy a new all shiny finish - but the only way to keep it that way is to put it in a case and hide the part of the phone which looks different from other iPhones.

is the customs charge applicable on anything or is there an allowance after which they can charge you 23%?

if its on anything, sounds like it might be better to get it in dixons (if available), their prices for apple stuff isn't too far off to what apple charge themselves and get it duty free

    iphone 7plus 128 gb would be 1029-237 (23%)= 792 euro

in USD: 869 + 70(sales tax) = 938 USD or 834 euro with the extra risk of being charge customs at 12% and vat at 23% when i return

    http://www.revenue.ie/en/customs/leaflets/pn1878a.html#duty-free

sounds like it's actually more expensive buying it in the US unless I'm missing something

Was there any mention of iPad at the event? Looks like they got rid of 16gb and 64gb Air 2 and introduced 32gb and 128gb (I think) for the same price by the looks of it.

IMO it's not worth buying the stuff in the states. The savings are small compared to the potential hassle if it breaks.

I think the limit is purchases to the value of €430 before they become liable to VAT/Duty. Bear in mind though, that once you go over that figure everything you bought becomes liable to VAT and Duty, not just the one item. Ring Dixons/Currys at the airport the day before you go, and ask them how much they are charging for the phone

Good spot. No mention that I remember.

Think they doubled the iPad storage tiers. Same as the iPhones.

Not very encouraging initial feedback on the new home button from The Verge:

"Another thing I tried: the new home button, which uses a "taptic engine" to give you physical feedback when you press it — it's pressure sensitive too, so it can tell if you really mean to press it or just tap it. And it's awful. On a MacBook trackpad, you get this uncanny feeling that you're actually hitting a button. On the iPhone, the whole bottom of the phone just sort of "kicks." It's not bad haptics like you remember, with weird vibration, it's just a new kind of bad haptics. It doesn't feel like a button at all. It's a bummer."

The Air2 looks the best value in the range at the moment.

Is it just me or have they dropped the price of the 64 GB SE?

Funny that we were debating the cost of AppleCare+ and the excess fee last night and today. Good news, there have been changes made. The excess fee is now €29 for a screen replacement (previously €99) and €99 is only charged if there is additional damage.

Would of been nice to get a release dates for Apple Pay across the world and especially Ireland.

It's getting annoying waiting for it here

That's worrying, I didn't even question the change because I assumed Apple would nail the execution. Hate to hear that it's actually a step back.

Those airpods look terrible. Like regular pods with the wires cut off. I'm curious about their quality because the look of it conveys "same ****ty sound" but for a lot more money. I do wonder what Ive spends his time doing sometimes. Also, just bring in usb c. At least then people will be able to plug in their boxed in EarPods into their macs.
