After government spent huge sums redeveloping it, looks like the taxpayer will face a massive rebuild cost. Crazy stuff...

An absolute disgrace, serious question's need to be asked about the whole management of this Institute.
Over a 100 serious assault's reported against staff, a mini riot a few month's ago, when 16 Garda responded to a call made by a member of staff and where refused entry by management.
It really take's the biscuit when staff are forced to go on strike(not for pay)but to try and obtain a proper safe working environment and to seek proper security being put in place to protect both staff and the inmate's of the institution.
Quiet obviously their has been some significant change in the way the centre has been run and managed in the past.
Because although there where escapes /assault's etc in the past there has been nothing like the amount of incident's reported in the last 12 month's alone.
There where actually complaint's from the public last week on the Pat Kenny show about the state of the art facilities and education program in place on the campus.
One father was going to tell his son to rob a few car's to get sent there,so he could get a top class education free at the taxpayer's expence.
I've seen the development of the campus over the year's,but the new ground's and campus are like a mini village and world class.
Too say that a major part of the campus has been destroyed by arson at a huge expense to the taxpayer is disgraceful.
It should also be noted a member of staff was assaulted by the individual's in order to gain access too the roof, and this was before the fire was set.
Staff to their credit left the picket line to assist their colleagues who where trying to deal with the disturbance,Minister for Children, Katherine Zappone and the Centre's director Mr Pat Bergin have some very serious question's to answer not alone about the management safety and security of the unit, but more importantly to address the real fear's and concern's felt by the resident's of the local area in Oberstown in light of recent event's.

Just an update ,, was listening to the Pat Kenny show this morning,I did not catch the full interview with the Centre's director Mr Pat Bergin, but the part I did get was Mr Bergin was saying that all the problem's on the campus where the fault of the Impact trade union and a core element of long term staff belonging to the Impact union who did not want to ''embrace change and progress'' at the centre.
So there you have it,it's the worker's fault and not the management who run the campus.
It also emerged that none of the''resident's'' had come from the penal system ie St Patrick's or Wheatfield etc, they are so to speak home grown,if this is the case and given the level's of crime and disturbance, behaviour's of the resident's then Mr Bergin need's to look closer to home and his own management and that of his management team for their failure to provide a safe working environment for both the staff and resident's before laying the blame at the feet of his much put upon workforce.
At the end of the day ,the staff did not go on strike just for the hell of it,maybe someday in this country we will get those in authority to acknowledge when a mistake is made or wrong doing uncovered and honestly apologise for their failing's instead of side shifting their responsibility's in order to protect their often over paid position's.

    +1

Heard only that bit of the interview and tbh I wasn't surprised one bit to hear the blame shifting. Typical Irish management
