How to treat lights that don't recognize bikes?

Just wonder about peoples attitude to this. I have always stopped at red lights but have started jumping a set of lights on my route to work which are only activated by a car (Road sensor). I was going to ask why they thought their bike was a bus or taxi, but after re-reading it I'm guessing that they meant the other side - i.e. no reason for them to stop if there is no bus or taxi coming the other way ?
