Would anyone know where I could get a crystal for a remote control which is from the 90's .It is marked 30,900, MEC , 19. It operates on 309 MHz and now seems obsolete . A leg of the crystal has broken at its base and seems unsolderable

If only one leg is broken off, just put a blob of solder onto the stump. Don't worry if it shorts to the can. It will probably still work.
Then just connect 2 short wires back to the PCB and mount the xtal flat if you can.
If one side of the xtal is connected to ground or negative, then connect the repaired side to this.
There are companies that can make you a xtal but I don't have a name to hand.

I soldered a piece of wire to the stump side hope it holds but it works. I did it before the reply as a last ditch attempt to get it working. I laid the can down on the top of a multi legged chip and secured it with a blob of rubber based glue to absorb movement and reduce the mechanical strain on the soldered leg.
Thanks for your help Fuzzy Clam

if you run out of luck with the crystal-
here is a link to a remote control that looks very similar to your own.

and even the circuit board looks the same:

if the new one wont work, perhaps you could transplant the crystal from the new one into your old one.

It looks a bit pricy I would get a receiver and a couple of modern remotes for that price , but thanks for your research for the info.
