I normally download them as soon as they go live as my brother keeps missing the show.

I'd suggest downloading the other two soon as Nova might remove them before the show time.

Was there ads about JC? I no longer listen to regular nova apart from FNRC so haven't heard any ads. Is he going to be back Sunday morning?

Do I have to believe in god as well cos if JC is coming back, then I believe in miracles :D:D

Or maybe Nova are playing classic ads instead of classic rock :D

Just caught a tiny bit. Very mainstream . No jukebox for sure.

Yeah couple of jingles but otherwise just a bog-standard show

What has happened to John Clark's Jukebox?

    :(

I only tuned in from 8:20 Max, he didn't make any mention of it while I was listening. There was a 'Reasons To Be Cheerful' bit where he read out a few messages, and the jingles like I mentioned earlier, but otherwise it was just a show with some music. He played Two Door Cinema Club which I wouldn't have regarded as a Jukebox tune!

    :(

It was scrapped. Unfortunately, the music didn't fit the vision of the station. Quite a similar reason that led to it being cancelled on 2FM.

The Jukebox fan page on Facebook had many complaints and words of support for JC and the show, when it was announced that the show was ending.

So now we have JC back on the airwaves (thankfully), but no doubt having to stick to a bloody playlist.

Would be great if JC was given Saturday brekkie as well - better than the best bits of that overly promoted Colm and Lucy show.

Why is there no alternative shows on radio nova? Like a metal show or punk show or some other genres?

    Very good question.

I'm sure Tony Ainscough would play the odd bit of metal on his Friday night rock show, and Peter Devlin and Kieran McGuinness would throw in a bit of punk on their weekend shows.

Pity there's no dedicated programmes for it though.

Specialist shows are presumably too polarising for a commercial station. You either like it or you switch over.

That said, you'd imagine from, say, 10-11pm on Tuesdays, when there's presumably relatively few listeners, you could select a topic for an hour and focus on that - punk, metal, a band, a year, etc.

Could you imagine Miller Rocks....an hour of Mortys fave metal hits..it'd be like his normal show..boring...leave well enough alone I say...:p

    No demand for it.

Dublin is a small market, Nova has a very small share of the audience, the numbers of people who would want a punk show must be tiny.

Metal might be more viable but same principles apply.

Metal, 90's grunge maybe a combination of a few things.

Theres no-one qualified or knowledgeable enough on nova now to present a show like that since PJ "left" fm.....no, not even courtenay..;)

JC back doing a playlisted, and most likely pre-recorded show is a strange one alright. 7 am on a Sunday morning is a shocking slot for someone like him to have, and I'm surprised he took it..... Somethings not right.

Edit: went looking for the show on Listen Back on the Nova website and 7-10 A.M. from yesterday morning are missing!!

I suspect he was in contract and it was easier to keep him on in some form rather than pay off unfair dismissal.
First time I ever recall a station taking a Dj back on after publicly going their separate ways.

How do you work that out?

    1 presenter doing 1 show a week.

Just because of his past he is no superstar, just another has-been presenter.

Never thought of that, very possible and a good explanation to the 7am start.

There was a chap on Facebook telling all the nova and brannigan haters to eat their words when the show was announced but the thread was deleted

Not what I meant. A poster said he spotted her driving a new car the other day, then he was informed that she is now in America so either he saw someone else or he was caught out lying!

Lads, it's best to ignore Max. It's just easier.

He also mentioned a 192-reg car - there aren't any yet. So he's just posting something stupid thinking it's clever just because there's an ellipsis and a smiley...

Nova licence up for grabs next year. They intend to bid to renew.
Not sure why, as its a classic rock licence and they're not a classic rock station anymore (were they ever?)
They shouldn't get it unless they revert to playing more classic rock.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,820 ✭✭✭FanadMan

Noticed they deleted a couple of their FB posts today. One was about "Tim Morello" Backs Petition To Get Black Hole Named After Chris Cornell. There was lots of slagging about the really poor research and typos.

They really, REALLY need somebody that knows something about rock music to work there during the day and look after the online stuff......and programme proper music.

Why..??...theyre not a rock station, ..no doubt they'll start to play more rock as the licence renewal approaches, sure maybe they'll even get PJ back on air for a few weeks beforehand to seal the deal......:)
