Last Sunday, I was trying out Nova's digital stations. I had started with Classic Rock when Pat James had his Off the Record show. I got a bit bored when he was interviewing someone so I started switching around the other digital stations. I came to Radio Nova 60s shortly before midnight.

A song from the '60s (as you would expect!) was finishing. The next song came on, one that I knew quite well. It was Burn by Deep Purple. I knew it was from the 1970s, but I checked the year anyway: 1974! Not even close! I remember getting Pat James to play a Deep Purple song featuring David Coverdale a few years ago. It could have been that very song he chose, or, otherwise, Stormbringer!

I sent a post on Facebook about this error in their playlist and I also messaged them on the same platform last Monday. Last Tuesday, I e-mailed their complaints department (yes, they have one!). So far, I have not received a reply, not even an acknowledgement. What bothers me most is the prospect of someone putting together a playlist for a specific period or time, or niche, and not checking it before they put it out. I also am bothered by the possibility that someone has not got a clue what they are putting together. As I pointed out to them, Pat James would definitely not make that kind of mistake!

I tuned into Radio Nova 60s briefly last night. Guess what: the song that was being played was Burn by Deep Purple! They are still doing it!

I should have mentioned that the previous occasion was September 15th. That's more than two months ago!

The one and only by Chesney Hawkes used to be on Today FM's Friday night 80s playlist even though it's from 1991!!!

For some reason, lots of stations include this on their 80s shows.

So what's going on then, if it is a phenomenon that is not unique to Nova? Are we dealing with people who not only have no idea what music they have compiled, but who do not think to verify that the song is the right decade? Music supplied by people with no clue about the music!

very common in radio today Declan!! Bring back the days when a playlist was a box of records selected by the listener, the knowledgeable presenter and / or a Producer !!

It's the musically dead idiots like Colon and Loopy and Producer Clint who, rather than having a passion for music and broadcasting, are just doing a job instead. They really don't give a sh1t as long as they get exposure and a paycheck.

To confirm. You think Lucy Kennedy is putting the playlist together for an online streaming service?

Was great to hear the classic rock legend Alice Merton on Nova yesterday. Hopefully she'll be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame some day.

"Near wild heaven" by REM has been played 5 times in the last 11 hours, ditto "hold me" by fleetwood mac, maybe others. What is up with these freaks?

    https://onlineradiobox.com/ie/nova/playlist/?cs=ie.nova

Is there an online classic station that plays similar artists, but has more than 4 songs to pick from each artist?

The whole pre-recorded thing last night sounded very poor, pauses and dead air, links not smooth at all, various songs repeated several times, just really sloppy overall.

I'd still prefer that compared to some prick with a put on accent babbling crap. Last week the main talk between songs went like this

"I'm ringing in for the competition"
"I haven't announced you should ring in yet"
    "OK sorry"
    "Ok bye"

I feel sorry for the decent DJs who do have decent facts/chat etc. I wonder if they listen to the others at home and just cringe.

Posted this in Colm and Lucy by mistake, so I’ll post it here now. Just a perfectly normal news headline from Nova here. Absolutely nothing wrong with it at all. Pr1cks.

That is sickening, imagine the family reading that.

As for the other poster in the other thread saying it could be a cut & paste -I cannot find the same on google. But even if it was if your job is to cut & paste you would not do it blindly, its not like it was some sentence deep in the text that might have been skimmed past, its a big bold headline. Utterly disgusting, and I am not easily offended.

Same here, I’m not a perpetually offended type. But there’s something really nasty about this. They have it on their Facebook page and despite people letting them know how bad it is they’ve left it there.

The station style must dictate that he can't JACK it in and produce a broken link.

Is Pat James talking a break tonight? I notice that the digital station Classic Rock is on autopilot tonight (and it's not his kind of music mix either!).

When I heard Down Down by Status Quo, followed by Leave It by Yes, I knew something was up!

It's well known (in nova towers) that Hayes doesn't like Pat or rock music in general.....but Kev and Pat go back a bit so sadly for Pat he was shafted by his so-called "mate" Branigan...

Have to say, Phil Cawley is a perfect fit for the station. With himself, Liam Quigley and John Clarke I'd be quite happy listening more regularly. Okay its playlist isn't Planetrock but the 3 lads play decent enough music with limited but professional links.

I had more of a playlist on my phone in 2005. it's utterly embarrassing. Up next Prince, you know that 3 hit wonder guy, purple rain, little red corvette or raspberry beret.

I am using this site now and its amazing, listening to stuff I never would put on like Grateful Dead and hearing songs I never knew the name of. There is a "blend option" to mix different genres.

absolutely - I just can't listen to the toilet talk and unfunny jokes. In fact I've stopped listening to nova at all now.

I still jump in and out..the lunchtime show is about the only one i can stand..decent (if cheesy) tracks....Courtenay can play the odd one too but he's such a fool..he was banging on today about how bad R.E.M's "Shiney happy people " was....then he plays it..of all the songs in their catalogue he had to play it.....all that hair dye has fcuked his brain.

What is driving me mad about Nova is the CONSTANT rehash at every ad break of the 'funneh' bits of the Breakfast Show for the rest of the day and over the weekend. If you are driving for an hour, your will hear the same drawn out, rehearsed, 'fun' interaction between the two presenters at least twice if not more. It is boring and it is tedious.

Can the programmers just keep the Breakfast Show to breakfast time without ramming it down the throats of listeners ad nauseam for the rest of day?? Frankly it has got to the stage where it is almost a listener-hostile act where they want to actively put people off listening...

I don't hear Marty Miller or Liam Quigley being pimped EVERY SINGLE AD BREAK hour after hour...

What is this rugby bollocks they persist with? Elitist, exclusive trivial egg-chasing toffery played by fee schooled buffoons from areas of society that wouldn't be spotted within 1,000 yards of the ordinary oul working class nova listenership. Brint Pap chatting ragby with Pet Courtneeey on Ireland's latest rugby misadventure. Just play some music and end this ****ology.

If you read back throughout the posts you'll realise that Haze runs the station...hence the constant plugging of his show...on his station...Branigan is basically there to comment on the JNLR figures....he' the face...Haze is the ass. ...:D

If they played that terrible excuse for a Breakfast show in my place of work everyday I would not arrive in until its over. I'd probably even consider joining a Union :D:D:D

And those constant adverts for the breakfast show are so annoying. THEY ARE NOT FUNNY. I would love to see the figures to see do they even have many listeners. Maybe 2fm will take Hayes back....

As for Pat Courtney. He does play some good music but he talks complete S***E.

That's one of the shows I really like. I usually play my own spotify lists in the car but I always listen to the Pat Courtney show when Brent Pope is on. Then again, I'm a rugby fan.
