Looking ahead to weeked and can already hear Boylesports et al plugging a major gamble on a Tony Martin 'good thing' in Heartbreak City. How many more plugs are they going to get from the actual historical gambles that were landed by this stable. Tony Martin should charge the bookies media rights everytime a big handicap comes up.
    You have been warned.

I wonder could creeping Ivy be another one tomorrow in the first at Thurles. 2 wins on the flat at tail end of last year over 1 and a half miles. 2 schooling exercises over hurdles. 66-1 with 365.

Said it in another thread, this horse nearly won a £2M flat race (it would have won but for the draw) but yet it gets sent out in a mickey mouse hurdle race. It's ridiculous - some people shouldn't be given nice things.

Desoto County is hard to win with but he was eye catching last time, will back him at a price.

    Backed it on 365 there @ 66/1

    16s on William Hill!
    25s on PP...

    A fair difference

Mickey mouse? It's one of the best handicap hurdles run all year, and he has an excellent mark. It's worth more than a lot of staying flat group races and he'll be a much shorter price in the hurdle than he would be in a group race on the flat. He also needs a good performance to get him high enough in the weights for a Cheltenham handicap.

Just one of the biggest handicap hurdles in Ireland sure, not to mention the owners are huge jump boys and the Coral Cup is the dream. I hope that post was a pisstake tbh.

I can see what your saying Francie, city had a long enough season but he's a great trainer and if the horse wasn't up to it, he wouldn't be running, the prize is very big.

I'd be more concerned about the trainers form which is diabolical, 4% with one win I think since November and that was in lofty Hereford. Must be bad feed or a virus, that strike rate is terrible

There's definitely a big race to be won with Mick Jazz, think Sunday could be his day. Was an eye catching 4th or 5th in Fairyhouse on their big Grade 1 day, the race Campeador tried to commit suicide in.

Automated who ran a similarly eyecatching race that day went and won cosily before xmas too, could be a few more to come out of that race.

Coral Cup is the dream? Are you joking? The Melbourne Cup is one of the most prestigious races in the world, the prize money is nearly 40x that on what's on offer this weekend. It's a crime to send a horse like Heartbreak City that has shown such ability in staying flat race over a mickey mouse handicap hurdle race. Imagine if suffers a career threatening injury this weekend?

Who's to say they're in it for the money? My understanding is these boys have plenty of money are massive National hunt fans and dream of winning big National hunt races and maybe land a punt for their friends and family while they're at it.

Who are you to tell them that's a crime?

That kind of attitude is why the public dont care about racing, protecting horses constantly Mullins is a massive offender Tizzard is a breath of fresh air.

This is how the owners reacted when they came second at Australia.

It obviously meant a lot to them, so I find it strange that they wouldn't want to at least try the horse at big stayers races in France or Meydan before another tilt at the Melbourne Cup again.

Say the horse steps on a stone in the mean time, you want it to sit in a stable till the summer?

Id disagree with you aswell Francie. If the owners are sporting enough to give it a crack at a big handicap hurdle then why the hell not. He had a shot at the Melbourne cup and came up short why not move onto a potential Cheltenham win (which means considerably more on these shores than an international flat handicap no matter how prestigious it is)

I for one aplaud connections, Racing is becoming more and more cold and calculated great to see decisions like this.

They reacted pretty much the same when they won the JLT with Benefficient a few years ago!

Yeah bearing in mind the Melbourne cup is a handicap the horse is nowhere near good enough to make it financially worthwhile to stick to the flat. He could have a fair bit in hand with his hurdle mark why not go for it? Wouldn't describe a 100k hurdle race as a bad one. You're a hard man to please Francie. Bearing in mind he's likely to never be competitive on the flat ever again with his mark

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 7,269 ✭✭✭Gamebred

If anybody but Martin trained it you'd be confident its a steering job it has about 20lb in hand I'd say, it needs to win to get a mark for Cheltenham also the prize money on offer and bonus to win the coral cup, yet with Martin its likely to be out the back of the tele.

Was gonna make that point. It's had it's chance on the flat and earned them a payday. Big flat handicaps are out now for for the forseeable off that mark. No other option but to exploit a very lenient hurdles mark

Ruby Walsh is on Allblak des Places at 16/1. Will this go off a good bit shorter do you think? Seems quite high.

Reckon it'll go off alot shorter than 16s. Only 17 and 17.5 on betfair which usually means money is gonna come.

I don't see much point in him going back to Melbourne. The Aussie handicapper will obviously give him a lot more to do in November.

Mullins antepost bingo has come up with min so, 4/9 jolly no mention of it all week when Mullins talked to the media any reason given this morning?

Very interesting, Charlie Parcs was so impressive at Kempton but Defi has course form and won the Grade 1 last time out. When Defi quickened at Chepstow his jumping went to pieces a bit though. Geraghty must be hearing good things from Hendersons. That's the most intriguing race of the whole day tomorrow, you couldn't be sure that both will actually run though.

Bred to be top class on the flat. Would be very cautious backing these types over the jumps.

Interesting with Min out, I would not be surprised if he skipped Cheltenham and YorkHill went to the Arkle, I dont fancy him anyways but If I did I wouldnt be taking the price for the JLT with the chances of him going the Arkle or Champion still alive.

Saving Min for Champion Hurdle if Faugheen doesn't deliver on Sunday :D

He's not ridden CP yet, I'd say Geraghty is on him to get a feel of what he's like.

I expect one of these two to end up in the Supreme.

They're not, highly likely Defi won't run unless the rain comes. Plan is to get CP used to the course while DDS already has, was in the today's RP

"There's no chance he'll run in the Newbury race as he's a horse for next year. We might keep him at home (instead of going to Cheltenham), but we'll talk to the lads and see."

That was Elliot after last Sundays win.

So Faugheen was fine last Monday after his muscle tweak that kept him out of the Irish Champion & Mins equivalent to a 'twisted ankle' (according to Ricci at Leopardstown that day) was a little more serious. Getting really hard to believe anything W P says these days, hope Gordon beats him in the trainers championship!
