Would like to start learning to play an instrument - where to practice?

Hello, I would like to start learning to play an instrument - it's something I've always wanted to do but never really had opportunity to do it. I was thinking of the trumpet or saxophone. I see I could get half hour lessons around here in the Terenure area but I'd also have to spend a lot of time practicing. I can't see how I could do this without driving the neighbours (and my girlfriend) mad as presumably there's no way of playing these instruments quietly?! How do other people learn to play an instrument without disturbing all the neighbours?
