Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Peugeot 407 Engine oil level too low?

    Hi ,
I have a 2006 1.8 petrol peugeot 407. I topped the engine oil three months back with 2 litres. Today I got a warning sign saying engine oil level low, when I checked it the oil level is below the bottom sign on the dipstick.
Is it normal that 2 litres got exhausted in three months considering I did not drive high number of miles?
Is there a chance that there is a oil leak somewhere?

    Thanks.

Yes it's either a leak in which case there should be evidence on the ground where it's normally parked or else the engine is burning oil, have you noticed any blueish colour smoke out of the exhaust?

Pugs almost always leak / seep some bit, but that's definitely excessive.

you need to be checking your oil much more frequently.

Thanks for the advice. I put 1 litre oil in it just now. Will be taking it to the garage on Monday

If there isn't oil pooling underneath it where you park it then ithe must be burning it.

The garage told that some valves might be leaking and yes it was a leak. Left the car for 4 days with them to fix it. I used to ignore the 'Engine oil pressure low' warning, thought it's common for old cars but the garage told that it's a serious warning and not to be ignored.

Low oil pressure is a very serious warning (only thing worse is if the brake system light came on), and under no circumstances should it be ignored. Even a few seconds with the light on can be fatal to the engine. Granted, some times it can be caused by a faulty sensor, or very low levels of oil (the most common cause of the light coming on actually), although the latter is serious in and of itself.

I think you need a new mechanic who actually knows what they are doing and who is able to properly diagnose what's wrong with your car. I haven't heard of oil burning or indeed any reliability problems with those EW7 engines, so hopefully it's just a leak of some sort (as alluded to by one other poster).

Thanks for the info, very valuable.

I get sometimes the 'Left hand stop lamp bulb faulty' but it doesn't look faulty. is this warning also serious?

I bought this car from a garage so need to go for it as engine repairs they will do it for free. But if this problem persists i will go to a peugeot dealer.

That message means your left brake light is gone, have someone push the brakes while you take a look.

Those bulbs will be dual filament or 'stop and tail' so sometimes even though the tail light part is fine, the brake light might not be working.

Sometimes though, those warnings give false positives, we've a 207 thats been telling us it has a blown brake light bulb for years. But to be fair the pug blows bulbs for sport!
