MacBook Pro - No chime, Black Screen

So my MBP 2011 isn't booting up. When I power on there is no chime sound and the screen remains black.

Last week the MBP wouldn't boot up and was giving the '3 beeps' which is usually due to unseated RAM. So I reseated the RAM and it powered on as normal. Grand.

Again, a couple days later there was no chime when powered on and it had a black screen. There were no '3 beeps' this time however so after some research I reseated the RAM again and it booted up just fine.

Now again, a few days since the last instance, I powered it on and there is no chime and black screen. So I reseated the RAM again, assuming that was the same issue as before but nothing. The MBP still wont boot up.

Some conflicting suggestions online as to what it could be. Logic Board, Graphics Card, RAM, etc.

Just thought I would see if anybody has any experience with similar and any suggestions to fix?

    Much appreciated, guys.

Probably better asking a mod to move it to the Mac forum here: Mac. You'll probably get a better response there, as this is for iOS devices.

Power on and hold down the command & R keys together and see if it boots to the recovery mode.

Hi guys, apparently it's video issues and is a common enough issue with certain MBP models.

Apple have a repair program in place to fix the issue free of charge.

    https://www.apple.com/ie/support/macbookpro-videoissues/

Can anybody recommend a reputable Apple Repair specialist in Dublin to carry out the repairs?

    CompuB.

Really? Haven't heard anything positive about their service at all. Are certain stores more reputable then others?

I had the exact same issue. Went to CompuB in Swords and they fixed it. No cost to me.

How long did it take to fix? Did they run a diagnostic when you brought it in?

Took a week and a half. I dropped it in and left.

I got a call the next morning saying that the fault was confirmed and that they had ordered the replacement part. I got a further email 3 days later to say the part arrived but hadn't fixed the fault. So, a 2nd part was ordered. That fixed the issue.

My opinion of them - good communication, fault fixed as promptly as could be expected for a 2011 machine, and work was done professionally.

What exactly was the part needed? Some sources say it's the thermal paste that bonds the graphics card to the logic board.

How's the MBP holding up since anyway?

Main logic board / graphic processor was replaced.

    Machine has been perfect since.
