He's playing the Olympia next week if you didn't know!

Darn it. Absolutely zilch holidays left at work so prob wouldn't have mattered.

Doesn't exactly rule him out of coming back for EP on the bright side.

Seems this thread is mainly a wish list of who we would like to see in 2017. I might as well throw in my list so.

So. for about the 8th year in a row .. any of these three would be so perfect for EP.

Amon Tobin (for god's sake EP, why has this man never been booked)
    Prefuse 73 (ditto)
Bran Van 3000 (ok .. you may need a lot of persuading t make this happen, but would be so worth it)

So there you have it the same 3 acts requested for the last 8 years or so. Maybe just book one of these just one year .. sigh.

Jamie T would seem to be a shoe in .. but I guess Bell X1 might be a little cheaper ;)

... and the moaning about the lineup begins before the the announcement of the first announcement is even announced.

WIll try to be positive this year I promise .. Go Jamie T

My wishlist for 2015 you can see below. The ones in bold, I got. So yes, this is proof they defo do and they booked them because of me obviously

Do you mean at EP? Paul K wasn't there this year? If outside of EP you missed a load from your wish list!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,501 ✭✭✭PabloAndRoy

Bran van 3000, yeah!! High 5! Beck - Wow, reminds me a lot of their "Drinkin in LA"

The BV3000 "Glee" album is probably the most under-rated bit of genius from the 90s. I just noticed its 20 years old next year. That should be celebrated in Rankin Woods... JFDI EP!

The Gorillaz seem to be teasing a new album having joined Instagram today and releasing a string of posts.. No date yet but I think these would be my strongest prediction of a headliner for 2017 this early.

Moby has confirmed he has a new album coming out

Moby, Nick Cave and Gorrilaz would be good

Plus it would keep all the old school picnic crew happy . Although tbh that would be great line up

The Specials currently doing a UK tour. Would be a good shout for EP although not sure of the billing they'd get.

Yep - heard on the radio this morning that there is a new album coming..

Alt J have announced on twitter they've been writing. Looks like Gorrilaz are releasing new stuff too. Them two and Radiohead are my official prediction/ wishlist haha.

Nah but seriously the former two, at least one of them could be in with a good shout of playing at this

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,218 ✭✭✭✭MadYaker

Alt J would be a great headliner. Have they actually started making the record yet or just writing?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,314 ✭✭✭BOHtox

    https://twitter.com/alt_J/status/778561099767672833

Last time they tweeted this, it was 3 months before their first single off their second album and 6 months from the album release.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,539 ✭✭✭ghostdancer

Alt-J are not an EP headliner, or at least certainly don't deserve to be.

they were barely a Longitude headliner (and a piss-poor one at that).

Haha I was just thinking about this yesterday when reading about his own vegan music festival.
He would be great assuming his live show still packs the punch of years ago.

The first two would make for an immense announcement.
Gorillaz were woeful at Glastonbury years ago, albeit at short notice, so I'm not sold on that one really, but if they had time to properly plan it I'm sure Albarn could do a job.

Alt-J are just a nothing band IMO.
No idea how they're as big as they are.

  • Registered Users Posts: 91 ✭✭Space Shanty

Of bands releasing new album that will be touring next year we could get some of the following:

    The Orb
    Beck
    Nick Cave
    2 Door Cinema Thing
    Jagwar Ma
    The Pretenders
    Rick Astley
    A Tribe Called Quest
    Chromatics
    Haim
    Modest Mouse
    Spiritualized
    Vampire Weekend
    Major Lazer
    Gorillaz
    Gary Numan
    Grizzly Bear
    Bon Iver

    Nice list.

Nick Cave, Jagwar Ma and Spiritualized...
I think if that was all I saw over the whole weekend I'd be happy.
Hard to see Beck coming back so soon, otherwise he'd be added to that wee list.

They're shockingly bad. Don't know what anyone sees in them

Early bird purchased for my 9th Picnic and only 340 ish days till the next one. The dust has certainly settled , and it took an extra few days this year to get over 3 full days on it. All in all its still a brilliant weekend that I love and look forward to more than any other trips during the year, including Ibiza , weddings abroad or quiet week away with Mrs Shanty.

Couple of points though that I think the organisers need to maybe look at.

    Friday night:
This needs to go back to a full(er) lineup. You have the guts of 50k on site wandering around looking for something to do, when there is anything on the 1 tent is rammed and dangerous.

    Crowd/lineup:
Maybe I'm just getting old a little (36) but I felt the young crowd have an air of oxygen about them, don't buy into spirit/vibe of the festival and just treat it as somewhere to get fecked up. This is down to the change in music policy, which is attracting a different punter, especially this year. Geared more towards FM104 and one hit wonders than TXFM.

    Commercialisation:
Cheesy loud sponsored bars popping up all over the place does nothing for the vibe. Glastonbury do a good job against this, and is going stronger than ever.

I'm hoping this year they really do have a think about the lineup and back up good headliners with good filler tier 2 & 3 acts. I've had a little think the last day or two and would be delighted with 4 headliners from the top, a handful of bands and below and some dance acts/djs etc.

    Radiohead
    Leftfield
    Massive Attack
    Depeche Mode
    Arcade Fire
    Foals
    Royksopp
    Moby

    Two Door Cinema Club
    De la soul
    Ice Cube
    Jungle
    Justice
    Jagwar Ma
    DBFC
    John Grant
    Steve Mason
    The Coral
    Gaz Coombes
    Metronomy
    The Horrors
    Sasha & Digweed b2b
    Alan Fitzpatrick
    James Zabiela
    Jon Hopkins
    Richie Hawtin
    Laurent Garnier
    Carl Cox
    Trentmoller
    Bookashade

Foals are unlikely to be touring the festival circuit again next year. They're lining themselves up for a glastonbury headliner slot in 2019.

A little later than most of you, but tickets finally secured. Some faffing about with pals. One of whom has one of those Ulster Bank 25% off Ticketmaster accounts, so what an uber-bargain the Picnic ticket is for next year. 49 weeks to go. Enjoy the weekend.

Fair play Seathrun66, will probably be working it again next year god willing. Now that Aphex Twin has broke that non touring spell, lets hope he enjoys the experience in Houston. Apparently he doesn't want to actually DJ again so might be reverting back to live instrumentation. Hopefully he adds more shows around Europe for 2017, I'd be happy if he was playing the Electric Arena but equally happy if he done a few standalone gigs too in Dublin or somewhere in Scotland.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

That implies you missed his Electric Ireland set?

If he's doing Euro fests then surely EP will grab him. We'll know in early Jan if that's likely when Primavera announces. If he's on their list then he's a big possibility for Stradbally.

I'm a massive radiohead fan and having seen them recently I have to say it wouldn't bother me not to see them at ep. They can't seem to generate a type of atmosphere for a large outdoor venue. I was surprised at how subdued the whole crowd were at the gig I was at. But then again that's down to their setlist which contained 7 or 8 tunes off the new album. The first 5 tracks from the gig were new which probably didn't help. Honestly I think they'd be a great sub-headliner to someone else but can't see that happening.

Maybe to The 1975 back for the sixth year in a row. The campaign for Thom & Co to sub-headline starts here.

Shut up ya gimp. I'm just saying it won't be the memorable performance you'd hope and want it to be. They clearly have the back catalogue for it and maybe it was just their setlist on the night. I just found their gig a bit flat. The chems and Lcd would blow them off the stage. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Less of the rudeness please. Wrong forum.

Radiohead ain't subbing for anybody. If playing they'll be FR's central act, as LCD were this year.
