Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Getting away with it a little in defence. Very panicky at times.

Midfield really needs to improve and hold onto the ball better. Maybe Harry arter or Wes would be better for us

He's been hoofing it from his goal the whole half

Asked my friend from Serbia and she said fans are just upset at how poor they have been in the past few years and the weather has kept fans away

All snide smartness aside, are you happy with the performance? Of is it just a case of some scouse-style 'no criticism' policy?

No, not entirely, but if the result was to stay the same, away to Serbia, in ****e conditions. I'd take it.

Your initial comment was that you didn't know how Ireland were winning. I'm not being a smartarse about it. For all of Serbia's play we've troubled their keeper more than they've troubled ours.

Unbelievable the amount of teeth nashing in here given we're leading away to Serbia.

Its brilliant stuff (the score, and at 90 minutes that will be all that matters if it stays the same) but we have been poor on the whole, you can't ignore that and I think everyone is just reflecting that.

I think they will be frustrated now and that could play into our hands with a bit of composure (take Walters off, he cant get on the ball, stick Wes on and crowd the centre.)

We know the script for this one, don't we?

92 minutes gone, score is 1-0...

George Hamilton: Well we can take great heart that we've started the campaign with a win...as Tadic gets the ball...oh, DANGER HERE!...OH NO!

    Brace yourselves.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,546 ✭✭✭✭murpho999

?????? Ah, stop. If pressing us that high isn't threatening I dont know what is.

They came close at the end but that was it really. They didn't do a lot with possession.

We have sat back since scoring.

I don't know why people are complaining so much; we're not that good of a team you know.

Leading in this away leg is a great achievement so far.

It's a poor performance, but it's away in Belgrade in a swimming pool. The result is everything. If we hang on, it's a fantastic start. Still would like to see Hoolahan on to control things a little.

Awful performance so far but won't matter a bit if we can get the win. I'd take Walters off for Hoolahan early in the 2nd half and try to get some composure on the ball in midfield.

Having said that with the state of the pitch it's always going to be a messy game.

Teeth gnashing because Ireland seem to be doing their level best to give the Serbs an equaliser. Teeth gnashing because Ireland have a habit of snatching draws from the mouth of victory. I take it you'd prefer a single point over 3?

The only positive is the Serbia keeper looks dodgy and he now has to play in the mud in the second half.

That's no excuse really as it's the same for the opposition.

46 successful passes over 45 minutes is shockingly bad.

I must be watching the wrong game! They have had about half a dozen decent chances that a good striker would put away.

I am not complaining, I am delighted and expected a lot of pressure and I know our limitations.

I think we are better than this and Serbia clearly are not a brilliant side.

Been a lot of pinball in the Irish penalty area. Eventually one of those balls is going to fall perfectly for a Serb. Got away with it so far.

this is what I am talking about. These pinball incidents are chances. And chances that you would expect, on the balance of probabilities one or more will go in eventually.

Serbia have looked dangerous on the crosses. If Ireland keep on letting those get in the box, one is bound to break to a Serb and they'll poke it in, and then all the 'what are you complaining about?' people will stop.

Obviously I hope Ireland kick on in the second half and build on their lead, but they just do not look confident on the ball at the moment.

Am I the only one content with McClean. Only one showing a bit of endeavour and taking the pressure off somewhat. Showed some tidy first touches also surprisinglr

Dunphy's solution: put our best attacking player to left back.

Is it just me, or does Didi Hamann sound Irish whenever his mic cuts out?

Yes to an extent but not everytime you collect the ball in the box
    In moderation this is fine
Long can still run on to the ball if the correct pass is played in midfield

Definitely been one of our better players. Too many people who look for very opportunity to to slag him off strangely. He's extremely isolated when he's picking up the ball most of the time and doing the best he can with it really. Superb defensive shift as always. Pick of the midfielders so far even if thats not saying much.

It is horrible to see all this aimless hoofing of clearances.

The only question that Ryle ponders is whether Ryle will get Ryle to commentate on the rugby...
