There's an old thread for the now defunct Abbeyfeale-Adare scheme (part of which will be done by the Foynes-Limerick scheme) and a general N21 thread.

This thread is for pure discussion of the future N21 upgrade from the Kerry/Limerick county border to the proposed N21/Foynes Road junction at Rathkeale.

This scheme will have to be done sometime because traffic levels through Newcastlewest and Abbeyfeale are already causing problems and this is before Adare is bypassed.

The issue has already been brought up by local councillors this week.

    I travel that road daily

    Weekends the traffic is unbearable

Its not a priority as there is no one in the gov pushing for it

the foynes motorway will make ncw inpassable on a Friday evening, abbeyfeale is already a chronic bottle neck

What are the numbers passing through on a Friday evening? Does anyone know?

What numbers are needed for a 2+2 or Dc?

Arrived at Abbeyfeale there on a friday evening two weeks ago, and traffic was backed up to outside of the village coming from Templeglantine and there was absolutely no reason for it.

Abbeyfeale is just too narrow and windy to deal with the traffic of a Friday evening.

The N21 Rathkeale-Abbeyfeale scheme's need will be clearly seen when Adare is bypassed.

The other two towns are barely able to cope as is with the giant traffic calming measure that is Adare, it'll be even worse in NCW when there's a motorway feeding into it.

About 13K on a Friday evening. Type 2 dual probably.

Thought it was a town? :pac:

The TEN-T road improvement will make a big difference to the N21. Only problem is Newcastle West will become the new Adare.

LIMERICK: It’s slow on the N21 Limerick/ Tralee Rd heading south into Adare. Further along it’s slow at Newcastle West and there are long delays on approach to Abbeyfeale.

Sad that this scheme isn't even near the table, let alone on the table. This is a daily + weekly occurance, and getting worse and worse during the summer months.
