Heading there just after christmas with a friend. We are planning on doing the usual touristy stuff (empire state etc) but wondering if theres anything you would recommend - a bit more off the beaten track? We love photography, cool bookstores, cosy coffee shops, cool architecture, wine bars, rock bars. We are aware it will be freezing but wouldnt mind a tour bus or walking tour either. Any ideas?

You can see at least 3 NY threads on the main page about this exact topic. Have a look there because this is all recycled info you'd be getting.

Anyway spend time in Brooklyn its the new hip place.
