We received an email purporting to be BOI requesting that we sign in to our account by clicking on a .png image in the email body that looked like an official BOI page. We can't post the screen grab unfortunately to show you.

The email came from: bankofireland (at) 365online.com and website (at) eir.telefonica.net

The link of the PNG image would bring you to an external website: http: // limoaviation. com /store /Imag3sb01secon which seems to be registered in Provo, United States

    UPDATE:
It would also appear that the website url was registered by Instra Corporation Pty Ltd.
Who sell domains and have a street address in Athens. What's particularly interesting is that if you look at their contact details, they do not have a Greek contact number. However, they would seem to be focused on the Australian market as their offices are there with a contact number in Melbourne.

    Good Morning Drayton Close,

Thank you for getting in contact with us here on Boards.ie.

Without seeing the image we can confirm that this is what's known as a Phishing email. Just to clarify, Bank of Ireland would never send emails requesting customers to confirm any account or password information. We would not send emails advising to fix or unlock your account by clicking on a resolution link.

As you've mentioned that you have clicked on the link in the email we would strongly recommend that you run and Anti-Virus software programme on your computer and do not access any genuine online banking until your software confirms that your computer is clear from viruses. We would also suggest that you contact your bank (if Bank of Ireland please call 0818365365) to have your Banking PIN changed.

You can also send this email and any future emails to our security team at 365security@boi.com

For further information on our security policy please see here

I hope this helps and if you need anything else, please don't hesitate to contact us again.

    Elaine
