Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi Everyone

As the title says, I am interested in buying leave for my wife. Should we consider to buy second hand in UK ore Ireland, As the sterling is on lower value at the moment , so is it worth the hassle. Or just go to local dealer and buy from here.

If buying from UK what should we consider, in terms of year and model and expected price . Also Who should we contact for arranging delivery to Ireland or should we self drive?

Lastly can you finance the car in uk from Ireland?

    Any info is much appreciated

    Thanks

Definitely better to go to the UK in my opinion.

I bought my Leaf when the sterling was at about 25% and still saved about €4k.

You can't get Irish finance on a UK car, you could use a bank loan though.

Just completed the import process last week, got my irish registration etc,

Car for car, mile for mile colour for colour etc I saved €5200 on an equivalent leaf here.

plenty of threads on the import process in here.

As per the other two posters, UK all the way. If you shop the UK, you have a wider selection of cars to choose from (there's not a lot out there but due to population across the water and better efforts in moving EV's, it's easier to select from their stock. You'll also save €€€€'s - moreso now than ever - due to sterling taking a drop.

I'm hoping to change mid 2019. Hoping that they drag Brexit on for a while yet.

There is talk to triggering article 50 next year and then negotiations would take 2 years so that could be tight DrPhilG.

once article 50 is triggered, the Government could for example constrain VRT relief to irish sourced cars, it cant do that at present ( even though the trade want it ) because of the single market
