cost of tb/water pump on alfa 147 and fiat punto ?

    Hi all,

    looking at a couple of smaller cars to replace my 2lt saab and was wondering

    1. cost of getting the timing belt and water pump replaced on a 2003 Alfa 147

    2. cost of getting the timing belt and water pump replaced on a 2002 Fiat Punto

    Also looking for a good mechanic Dublin south or kildare to carry out the work ?.

    the alfa is 1.6 and the punto is 1.2

    You'd nearly chance not doing the punto if it's 8 valve.

    Is the 1.6 engine in alfa, the same as 1.6 used in bravo/brava/marea?
    If so, waterpump is not powered by timing belt, so it makes a change bit less labour intensive.

    1.2 8v in punto, as Colm is saying, probably not worth changing - just drive until is snaps and change then.

    Cost for my timing belt and water pump was 100 quid for the parts. However that also included the balance shaft belt and tensioner which yours doesn't have.

    Labour was around 200 quid with Don Baker in enfield. A few of us on here have him do all the work on our Alfa's. Highly competent and very competitively priced. The last time I was down there he had a gtv and a 166 in getting work done as well as a lotus elan from the 60s and a supercharged mg K3. Always interesting stuff there anyway
