Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

New car to buy

    Hi all,

I'm thinking of purchasing a new car in the UK (I live in the UK) and am looking for some advice:

My budget is 8,500 pounds and am looking for a reliable and economical car with a maximum engine size of 1.6 (Petrol or diesel).

I've looked at the Toyota Auris (2013) from approved Toyota dealers, they usually come with 2/3 years warranty with low mileage (15k max) and they're within budget.

I don't want to get a yaris or a polo because they are too small for me. I currently have a Renault and have had some problems with it and was told it is common with French cars therefore would like to avoid them.

Can anyone recommend any other reliable and economic cars to look at within my budget?

Hyundai i30/Kia Ceed. The latter has a 7 year warranty if that's your thing.

    Have you considered Dacia Sandero?
Great car, cheap to maintain, reliable, safe, and you can buy one brand new with your budget and have change left in your pocket!

Or you can buy the Stepway version:

They're the same size as a Yaris or polo though. Only nastier :)

On the safety thing, it's got a 4 star rating, which isn't that amazing.

Binning a Renault over perceived shortcomings with the brand in favour for Renaults budget brand Dacia doesn't make sense to me.

Yeah I did some research on it last night and didn't find it great.

It's a cheap price for a reason and I agree with the binning a Renault for it makes no sense
