Same as when out sick I suppose, you inform principal/deputy prin.

The sky won't fall in, that's for sure because lots/most of them seem to be a tick-box exercise.

If you're sick, you're sick. I think there's provision in the agreement somewhere to do substitution to make up the time. Whether that happens in reality is a different story.
