Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Amazon had an exclusive 24GB/24 month validity data sim that went on sale yesterday for £28.40.

It has since gone out of stock, but if you're interested, keep an eye out for it. http://amzn.eu/9TeeiJ4

Thats a savage offer. Circa €35 for 24GB for 24 months.

Note: offer is only available until December 15th.

You need to remember this will only work for 2 months a year outside the UK and that includes here in Ireland,

How does the 2 months of the year thing get calculated - if I have it turned off and its not in use, then it wont be counted as a day towards my 60 days I can use outside of UK?

If you use it for 7 days in Jan and then 1 day in March in Feel at home destinations then then you will not be able to use it in another in May as Your 2 months have already been used ,

When you use it in the second month you are sent a txt telling you that feel at home is only for leisure travel and you can only use in 2 months out of 12.

It is not 60 days it is use in 2 months out of 12,

Do you know if you use it randomly in UK/NI over the entirety of the 12 months if there's any re-set advantage for the 2 months allowance in Feel at Home destinations?

Seems very restrictive for genuinely resident UK users if they cross a border (like NI) on just one day in 2 different months and they're stuffed :o

Anybody know if i can put this sim in my phone and use my phone as a hotspot to tether to my laptop?

I'm in the uk right now and i have a 12gb sim in phone but it won't connect to laptop, just wondering can this sim can only tether using a dongle or what?

Once you're not roaming (and if you're in the UK with a UK sim, you're not) you can tether. In Feel at Home countries, 3UK won't allow it via a phone but works fine with a mifi.

This might help you set it up.

People are saying this has very slow net speed and took ages to find things on google maps.
Is there any other sim? I am looking for 3GB Internet only sim for San Francisco and Vegas.

You could go in to Walmart and buy a pre paid sim for $40 https://www.walmart.com/ip/T-Mobile-Activation-Kit/49217814#about

Many thanks. Any other possible option in the range of 25e? I need it for only 10 days trip.

I bought the 3GB just under three months ago now and have used it abroad in about 8 countries I never received any warning about not being allowed to use it outside of the UK. It would appear to be good for the full 3 months regardless of how you use it. Mind you I always took it out of the SIM tray when back in Ireland.

For people worried about the speed it can be bad but I found it depends on the country. Worst experience was in Belgium and the best in Austria. Its throttled some way I've found the odd time its quicker on E than on H+ but it'll get you there in the end with a bit of patience.

Fair play to the OP, I have purchased another one to last me till the new EU roaming regulations come in.

Thanks very much for this link.
Any idea what does that actually give you? Minutes, data text etc?

Off to US this year and if it has a bit of data it looks ideal.

So, I'm living in Spain but I live in a flat with quite a few others so the internet is pretty awful but I'm now considering something like this or similar. anyone any experience using this in Spain and how throttled the speeds are?

Thanks I'll have to look into this coverage wise, looks patchy where I'm going, but that'll probably be similar with all providers.

Quick question on this SIM: https://www.7dayshop.com/products/new-3-payg-4g-trio-data-sim-pack-preloaded-with-12gb-of-data-three-sizes-35203

Does this need to be activated in the UK for first use or can the initial activation happen in a roaming country such as Ireland or Spain?

No it can be activated anywhere.

Bought one of these Three sims as travelling to US soon and wanted use of maps if possible.

Anyway, I activated this for the first time today on an old Irish Three MIFI I had. Within 30 seconds I was connected to the Internet roaming as indicated on the MIFI.

The following is a Speedtest screenshot.

All in all this should suit my needs just fine on arrival in the US. Well worth it in my opinion for two months.

Are you going to the US for 2 months? Because you've already used up one of your (two) months by roaming in Ireland without also being in the UK at least once in January.

Activated my 3 UK Sim this morning & topped up by £10 all in one add on. Heading to London for the wkd so will be using over there. Then I'll knock it off till I land in Orlando on 28th March for two weeks. I'll buy voucher code when in London & activate before I go with the £20 top up deal.

This might be of use to some, considering the 3 SIM may only work with a MiFi or similar

Slightly cheaper via .co.uk site. even with £1.95 P&P

are there any restrictions in terms of when you have to activate it or by when you need use the data?
Meaning, i can buy it now and use it this summer and if data is left over use it summer of 2018?

Once you activate it, the clock starts ticking, whether or not you use the data during the time period. I got one for 3 months and it stopped working 3 months after activation. I'd only used about a quarter of the data, but I knew that was the deal.

Unfortunately, 3 has very poor coverage in my area, so I didn't really get enough opportunities to use it away from my wifi at home, which was the main reason for purchasing. I was really only trialling it in advance of going to Spain in the summer - I had a normal 3UK sim before and used it there. It was slow, but ok.

I'm not sure that's enforced, or maybe it depends where you roam. I can't give you exact figures, but I had one here in Ireland and it stayed working for ages and it was never in the UK.
I guess it stayed working at least 6 to 8 months and by then I believe the 12gb data had been used up.

My current one was first activated on 26/10/16 and it's still going strong.

You will have to have an unlocked phone, or a Three UK phone, and even then this sim is for broadband/internet use only. i.e you can't make calls.

No. They are different networks. You must unlock your three Ireland phone first.

Can the sim in the OP work in the UK?. UK isn't listed as one of the countries?. I would just need to use in the UK, would this still be one of the best deals for 3GB data in the UK for a mobile phone?

It's a UK SIM, so should work. The card can be bought in UK stores like Argos too. I'm heading to Wales this Summer, and this is a great little deal. Might just pick one up over in an Argos when I get there.

Yes it works fine in UK and you get much better speed compared to anywhere else on roaming since its a UK 3 sim.
