Since, you refused my kind offer of the Turbo Trainer, I suppose I'd better try again. €20 headed your way.

    Yay! Thanks guys.

Thanks also to Paul Newman for a donation to the fund along with the loan of a tandem...

Due to the horrible weather* (stormy winds and heavy rain) we are postponing this until the weekend of 8th October. Sorry to have built up the excitement just to deflate it but it means you'll all have more time to get donating in the meantime...

*I'd cycle in the rain of course but there just wouldn't be anybody to collect from... :)

To add to the spectacular excitement, actor Niamh Daly, 'Debbie' from Fair City, will be there Sunday 9th from 12-3pm shaking a bucket and cycling a km or two. Spread the word if you know any excitable fans who might be encouraged to come down and support/donate..

So. We're all ready for an early start in the morning. The route is from Mabotse in the west via Likupa, Morija (50km), Maseru, Roma (100km) All pretty flat before we get into the mountains - Ntsi, Fosi, Marakabeis (150km Halfway!), nothing for the next 50km until we reach Thaba-Tseka , Mohlanapeng, Maputsoe (240km), over the last climb and down to Rafolatsane (285km) and on to the finish at Mokhotlong (300km). Handily enough, Mokhotlong Airport is nearby so we don't have to ride all the way back!

This will all be happening on a stationary tandem on the seafront at Clontarf, opposite the Yacht club tomorrow and Sunday. Stop by if you're passing and drop a donation in the bucket or you can btn_donate_LG.gif with PayPal. Your support will be much appreciated...

You can also help by bidding in the live auction. The auction runs until midnight on Sunday 9th October.

    The auction works like this:
    • You bid by donating your bid and replying to the thread with your bid.
    • Next bid is also a donation and must be higher than the previous.
    • If two bids of the same amount are received, the first one seen on PayPal has priority.
    • The highest bid at the close wins the item
    • Losing bids remain as donations (Thank you).

    Happy bidding...

    And we're off.

It's a fine, cool spring morning here in Mabotse. Light northerly breeze and temperature around 10C.

    Looks like rain later though...

Doing well. Just left Morija and heading for the capital at Maseru. 55k in 2h30...

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,440 ✭✭✭cdaly_

5 hours in and we've just left Roma behind as we head into the hills.
Getting cooler with some rain starting and the wind picking up...

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,440 ✭✭✭cdaly_

2 hours in the mountains and only another 25k done. Still wet and windy but we'll press on to Marakabeis (halfway) before we stop for the night...

Finally in at Marakabeis with 155km done in wind and rain. Looks like staying dry but cool tomorrow with 145km to go...

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,440 ✭✭✭cdaly_

Remember Fair City's 'Debbie' will be with us tomorrow afternoon from 12 till 3 on the seafront in clontarf...

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,440 ✭✭✭cdaly_

Got off to a later start this morning but we've 15k under our belts already. It's a nice bright, clear morning with a bit of a tailwind helping us along. Welcome change after yesterday's rain.

    170k done, 130 to go...

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,440 ✭✭✭cdaly_

Another 40km done in the last two hours. A nice 20k descent picked up the pace for a while but we're back climbing now...

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,440 ✭✭✭cdaly_

    Only 25km to go.
Paralympian Michael Delaney (2008) came by and gave us a big 20km boost in the hills.

There's one last climb to go and then it's a 15k descent to the finish...

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,440 ✭✭✭cdaly_

And we're done. Had a visit from Dermot_Illogical for the final descent.

All in all a great weekend and thanks to all for help and donations...
