Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Guys

    Was at the range today with the .223 and the moderator heats up a lot after putting a load of round down range.

    Is there covers to help with the heat mirage.

    I've read of horror stories of some covers melting and sticking to the moderator.

    Any recommendations

    Thanks

    Neoprene sleeve.Available at any dive shop for wet suit repair.Cut a piece that will cover the silencer like a tube,and glue together with aqua seal.Wont melt and will take some heat as well.

    Mirage band?
    Bit more work, but another possible option.

    I use a neoprene one folded over a JET Z moderator. Really reduces mirage and you only start to notice it when the end of the moderator gets hot. I found the mirage a real PITA when range shooting before I got this. Similar to these;

    I also have one of these. Quality bit of kit but it doesn't fit my moderator. I'll probably wind up sticking it in the Sale Section.

    Just a user tip on this one.
    I have this on my rig,and have to say it is a major PITH to get on the can when it is new. It seems to be designed more for a one piece can rather than the modular designs.IOW get it on the can and leave it on.When it heats up,it becomes looser and easier to remove,but also allows if they have loosned your modular components to back off their threads. If I was doing this again.I'd go neoprene alright,but devise some kind of grommet and lace up system like the old STEN or Ingram MAC 10 cans had for easier dis assembly and cleaning.

    Company called tab gear make a really nice moderator cover and do it in a range of colours and camo patterns. I've one of there shooting rest bags and it's really well put together and quality workmanships gone into it.

    also looking at this one from Cole Tac which seems to have a better and more secure way of holding the cover on.

    It's a TAB gear one - same multicam type pattern as in that link.
    Not sure of size. I'd guess it's the 1.5" diameter but I can measure it at weekend and check it.

    I'd agree with Grizzly's comments about putting on the neoprene first time. Mine was a tight fit but it loosens up over time so that it's easy to slip on and off but it's still a snug fit. During cease fires on range I partially slide it off to allow mod to cool a bit.
