I need good headphones for college, generally for analysing audio. I'd assume I'd need some studio headphones? Also, is it possible to get headphones that can be played loudly for the listener, but is quiet to those who are nearby? Recommendations are welcome, thanks

    Beats By Dre.

Your budget is good. You can find a good variety.

Do not get a pair of beats for analysing audio that's a terrible suggestion sorry.

What you want is noise cancelling closed back headphones capable of high SPL with a flat as possible frequency response. Seinnheiser HD-25's would be an excellent investment.

You might be interested in this site from a technical perspective. The forums section has tones of resources that would help you decide what would be best to buy.

Funny you mention this because about 5 minutes before looking back at this forum, I purchased a pair of Sennheiser HD-25's. lol what a coincidence

If you want to make them more comfortable I highly higggghly suggest these abd boys. While the site is a little irritating to navigate I purchased them and I'm bloody glad I did.

Don't really have a problem with the ear pads on mine. What material are the cushions on those ones made from. From the looks of the picture they stick out a lot more than the original pads which would put the drivers further from your ears and also make the gap they have to close smaller which would put more pressure on your ears. Do they change the sound much also those pads giving that the air the drivers have to move around is slightly increased. It would be unnoticeable to an untrained and maybe trained ear but analysing the sound from them would show slight changes I would say.

I haven't noticed anything change, but I'm sure what you're saying is accurate :o however, the amount of comfort they add imo is fantastic. Especially since I perceive no changes in SQ.
