Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If a building were to turn off a service to save on costs, electricity, servicing etc, what ones cannot be turned off due to building Regulations?
    Electrical
    Fire alarm
    Lighting
    Water
    Lifts
    Electronic access doors
    Electric gates
    Communal Bins
    Street, car park lights.
    CCTV

    Electrical - Yes

    Fire alarm - Yes

    Lighting - Yes

Water - Yes Part G of the Building Regulations.

    Lifts - Yes

Electronic access doors - depends if they are an emergency escape rout from the building, or emergency entrance route for fire fighters or fire tenders.

Electric gates - depends if they are an emergency escape rout from the building, or emergency entrance route for fire fighters or fire tenders.
Communal Bins - Waste Management Legislation.

Street, car park lights - Need to be left on from a health & Safety, Liability point of view. May also be part of the granted planning application.

CCTV - personal preference, these are not a requirement.

could be serious insurance implications if the policy is based on 24hr security.

OP, an occupied building shouldnt be looking to save costs by ending pretty much essential services that you have listed.

there should be much more lower hanging fruit... and if not then look at revenue gaining actions.

Electrical turn off the items that are not required, lots of business leave items on all the time weather required or not
    Fire alarm
Lightinglook at changing to more efficient bulbs, also look at motion sensors that only activate lighting when needed
Water look at harvesting systems to washrooms and toilets
Liftshuge scope to save on maintenance with shopping around, save use by introducing health policies with staff and encouraging them to use the stairs
Electronic access doors can they be changed to manual?
Electric gates can they be changed to manual or left open during daytime
    Communal Bins shop around/recycle
Street, car park lights. as per lighting above, sensors?
    CCTV

Who enforces action if the essential services are turned off...I may need to contact them.

    Building control.
    Fire prevention.
Housing standards depending on the use but I'd start with the above. Where is the building located.

Then all that's left to do is report to the LA.

If it's a place of work then the HSA would have a remit too under the Health, Safety and Welfare at Work regulations.
