New Gravel on Roads by Glencullen

DLR/Wicklow Co Co (whoever's responsible for that area) in all their wisdom have continued to "fix" the roads of the area by dumping a load of gravel down on the road and reducing the speed limit to 25km/h.
They've finished the work on the Glencree Road and around Enniskerry, but now they've added new gravel to roads around Glencullen. These include the road from Stepaside up to Johnny Foxes and the Devil's Elbow. They put a thick coating of gravel just on the bends at the Devil's Elbow, making traction quite difficult.
Segment for the bends here: https://www.strava.com/segments/11682042 — Devil's Elbow - Up de Bends
And for the full road here: https://www.strava.com/segments/631154
Plus the road up to Glencullen via Stepaside:

Don't know why they decide to continue gravelling the roads, surely there's a better way?
Anyway be careful on those roads, may destroy tyres!

There are better ways but gravel is the cheapest

I get that but when it affects the traffic on the road it's kinda counter productive. 25km/h speed limit is completely ignored by all drivers too, that's just too slow for cars who therefore choose to ignore.

The speed limit is an insurance tick box exercise should someone try to make a claim after coming off the road due to excessive speed on gravel. (As the speed limit ends in a '5' then it's temporary.)

I hope they have joined up all the pot holes to form a smooth road from Enniskerry to Glencree! That road was more like a load of holes formed to make a road like thing!

Was up there this evening and it was thick with really small piece gravel even more dodgy than the normal loose chipping stuff

Yeah it was very thick, thickest at the bends of Bridge Road (Devils Elbow) just where you don't want it to be thick..

I know there was a thread here about clgetting a group to clean up the Wicklow mountains. Any one fancy another trip with a few sweeping brushes for moving gravel?

Rode along this road last week https://www.strava.com/activities/712366711/segments/17480521443 and the first part was resurfaced. It was as smooth as a billiard table. Hope they didn't ruin it by dumping chippings onto it.

This may be the finished road surface for some time, considering it's DLRCC, who's contractor on the recent Commons Road resurfacing, had signs sitting on top of piles of aggregate for a couple of weeks, that read "Caution: Unfinished Road Surface"

Unfortunately they did do just that. But not on the Killegar Road but Bridge Road from Glenmolin going up to Glencullen.

Why is everyone complaining? Isn't this just an excuse to justify another bike purchase??

    Gravel bikes ftw!

Had a fall on Bridge Road yesterday evening due to gravel on road, it's especially bad going up the hill into Glencullen.

Hope you're okay, they went a bit overboard with it alright!

Cheers. Ah was fine, a bruised ego was the worst of my worries.
Will be avoiding that route until it's sorted though.

Same with me, would advise people not to go down the road from Glencullen anyways, more dangerous descent now. Going up... well that's okay, just harder, you're cycling through dense gravel!
