Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Importing A Camper Van From South Africa

I am looking at a vintage camper van in South Africa, and importing it here seems a lot less than buying one here. I have looked into shipping companies, importing charges and so on and in theory it is still a lot cheaper but I am wondering if anyone has done this in the past? How long did the whole process take? Was it a messy, complicated process or was it as easy as pay someone else to do the work? Any recommended shipping companies? Just looking for peoples experience on the matter, please.

lots of crooks out there, you'd need to trust the seller and the export agents 100%. VRT and VAT to pay as well as shipping of course.

VRT is a minefield, you can't get any estimate on expected value until you present it to pay the VRT.
Cars, motorcycles, trucks, are known amounts, Campers are not.

if the vehicle is vintage the VRT is only €200.

@savagethegoat I know there are a lot of thugs out there, but I'm hoping to hear from people that have done it without getting scammed or ripped off just to see if it is worth all the effort.

@CJhaughy and @ohnonotgmail I was wondering about that VRT, couldn't figure out if that vintage rule applied to all vehicles or would campers have to pay astronomical figures they'd pull out of the sky for themselves.
