Just rang them, told them i want to exercise my right to cancel the contract within cooling off period of 14 days due to the information in this email. The rep immediately offered a 4 months half price, i insisted in 6 months and in less than a minute she agreed. Worth a try...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,234 ✭✭✭Amouar

My discount will end on November, therefore I might not call them now and rather wait until the end of my contract on February.
If I call them now and get 6 months half price, I will lose the remaining 2 months half price of my current contract, therefore it will technically be a 4 months half price rather than 6 months half price.

I'm on the phone here to Sinead, she is not very pleasant to deal with I have to say, but in the end she agreed to offer me 6 months for half price. you just need to be persistent with her and tell her that there is better deal they can do.

Onto another girl now, 30 off for four months

Said about Sinead offering someone half price and didnt offer me, then got about oh customers could be spending more with us longer etc

    120 better than 60 I Suppose

Hilarious - I was just on phone with someone too who got extremely stroppy with me.

Asked how did I know that similar customers were getting 6 months rather than 4. :):)

Got 6 months in the end and a new modem.

    Thanks OP

Anyone tried without getting an email?

Don't settle for anything less that 9 months half price! They give this out regularly to people who are just out of contract, I myself got 12 months half price.

Seen as comreg ruled against them you have a much better bargaining position if you have received the email!

That will depend on your previous contract amounts I presume. Obviously someone with a max package will have more room to haggle.
I tried the 9@1/2 and 3@full but the max I could get was 6@1/2 and 6@full.
I was talking to Martha who was helpful, had a bit of a joke at the start which kept the conversation in high spirit, got her to check with her supervisor with a few options, because I wasn't barking at her, she didn't mind helpling and the best outcome for me was the above.
Now, she did warn me that because I have availed of a few of these offers, I probably won't get similar offers next time I'm due an upgrade. I'll cross that bridge when I get there....

Are you guys having to sign up to new 12 month contract to get these discounts?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,495 ✭✭✭bidiots

Yes, taking any of these deals is entering a new contract....other option is to cancel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,739 ✭✭✭scamalert

did call this morning while in bed and thx op you saved me 180 total for next 6 months :)

was surprised to see call actually went to Irish call center, woman on the phone was nice and all.I went for straight cancellation since received letter and wasn't happy,so she offered 4 months half price, but said make it 6 and its a deal.got confirmation letter and all after 2 minutes.

When first increase went in this year got 4 months half-but managed to negotiate that to get 360 and new router of them so deal worked out same price plus increase in speed and new router.

So imagine for anyone who got letter ,getting 6 months shouldn't be an issue at half price, while they have a clue that people most likely call just to get this BA now,but either way unless your real power user on BB speed there's nothing to lose,if you dont like deal ask to get cancellation email sent in,and you still got period of two weeks or until your account clears for the month to pick another ISP since,if news like that broken out earlier most ISP's would went for grabs on new customers.

yes thats entering new contract for another 12 months, but say if you gotten 6 months half, you already saved up,so next year around same time,id imagine there might be less chance to get better deal but year is long time,so eir, and other companies might actually start catching up speed wise, and even if price increase comes in again come january you still would lose like extra 30-50e before end of contract, and that again would give one leverage to shop for better deal, can they increase price again without terminating contracts is a good question thou, but from what i gather if person is in contract they cant do that without letting people opt out from it,since they signed up for x amount x time contract, and this is the outcome VM had without doing proper notice since they did last increase.

Rang up this morn & said I wanted 9 months at half price. Mentioned sky and this thread. She put me on hold for 2mins, came back & said yes that fine.

Don't settle for anything less. Do the same next yr when they bump up their prices. You'll always be paying half price 😎

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,739 ✭✭✭scamalert

well 9 months seems really pushing it,then again some people have better negotiating skills. So if your nothing to lose then 9mo or nothing, since people on phone seem nice now,so no need to beat around bush, once offered deal make your own and if they dont give it just ask for confirmation, since imagine after week passes and they will have rough estimate in user loss damages, they might not be so keen on giving better deals.

My 6 months at half price just ended last month,so i rang them and said i was going to sky,i was offered 4 months half price, so i said give me 6 months at half price and i will stay, she agreed,so effectively i am getting one full year at half price, the timing of the email worked out perfectly :)

Was slightly odd to be having the conversation with an Irish lass after previous experiences!
She offered four months with a 20 euro discount initially. They really, really didn't want to give me anything more but pushed for the six months half price and after a minute on hold got that. She said this was positively the last time they would be doing it :)
I *hate* having to make these sort of calls, but saving €180 for five minutes of squirming really is a good user of your time.

If you only signed up in June I don't think you'll be getting the email. I think their fcuk up only happened at the end of last yr, beginning of this. I may be wrong though.

did a search there, I renewed end of January and received confirmation order email, damn it! lol but actually don't want to sign up to a new contract with them. Thinking of getting a tv box and just going with whomever has best broadband package.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,420 ✭✭✭✭athtrasna

Pretty sure I received a confirmation email but I got this email anyway. Rang them, spoke to Pamela. She looked at my account and didn't think there was any chance I'd get any more that the 4 months they were offering but I persevered and got 6.

She did tell me (in a roundabout way) I should report every glitch with the service as that can lead to people getting better offers. She also said that they had taken on board the feedback about the foreign call centre and that the majority of calls are now going through Limerick, the figure of 90% was mentioned.

I tried as best I could, but only managed to get 4 months at half price as I have broadband and phone only. He said there was no way he could give me the 6 months half price as that was on TV packages only and they were only offering 9 months half price in extreme circumstances! Also managed to get a new modem FOC. All in all not bad for a 5 min phone call. Thanks OP!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 470 ✭✭Dave 101

I got 6 months half price and new modem happy enough with that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,213 ✭✭✭pm1977x

I was only offered 4 months half price and told 9 months isn't available for all customers, won't be enough to keep me with them so I'm off to SKY.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 915 ✭✭✭geecee

    4 months here too
Still have 1 month left on my current 6 months off
So effectively I would only get 3 months Half price and then 9 months full price

At that rate I am better off to stay on current contract and renew atits anniversary

Or as other has pointed out - go to SKY - Although the best deal I can see on SKY though is 55€ PM for 12 months (Sky Apartment)?

The new discount starts from now so if you have already got 5 months half price and are now getting offered 4 months it means you will have had 9 months at half price and then 9 months at full. From talking to them if you play down your need for broadband and just say you are comparing 12 months total cost with Sky it gives you a bit more leverage. I managed to get 6 months half price from doing it that way...

Nonsense. I'm phone & broadband, I got 9 months half price. Ring them back

Rang and got 6x25 and 6x50euro

Downgraded from 360 to 240 MB and back to local calls only

That 360 made no difference to me and use mobile for all calls anyway

Next 12 months outlay gone from 720 to 450!

You've no cancellation leverage without email. Otherwise you pay 200 to cancel mid year

Just off phone. got 6 months half price, new horizon box, upgrade bb and new modem, on new 12 month contract. Fair enough. (Lady I spoke with was adamant that there were no 9 month half price deals and that the posts on Boards regarding same were untrue ! make of that what you will. )

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

    Got to love these fook-ups

Just finishing my 8th out of 9 month half price after their price increase got me out of my contract. And I had just renewed the contract for a year to get the €10 a month all you can eat everything mobile (including very fast 4G)

Then this. Because I already got the major discount the last time, they were sticking to their 4 months half price. But I did manage to get 6 months after persevering

Thank you bargain alerts and everyone in this thread, that's the guts of €300 saved in one 5 minute phone call :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 486 ✭✭onform

We have 120 meg broadband and Anytime Mobile home phone. My wife rang and the guy initially offered 4 months €10 off. Then when she turned that down, quite quickly half price for 4 months (€25 instead of €50).

He pretty much wouldn't budge to give the 6 months half price. The only way he would do it was to 'upgrade' us to 240 meg bb and an inferior phone pack, so we'd end up paying more after the discount period.

Repeatedly used the fear tactic of 'Well if you go to Sky it will take a month to be installed, and if you cancel today we'll disconnect you today'. My ar$e.

We are going to cancel within the 14 day window. We have plenty of other options for BB (Sky, Eir, Vodafone) and will research over the weekend.

It will give me great pleasure not to be giving any more money to this poor excuse for a company. This email is a great opportunity to be shot of them, I'd advise anyone else who received it think about doing the same.

Just called. They offered my six months. I said I was still going to leave....kept it going until she was about to pull the trigger on the termination. Then I said any chance you would do 9 months half price and she was like "sure why didn't you just say thats what you were after...I can do that for you no problem". She then threw in 2 months of Sky movies for free. Happy days!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,666 ✭✭✭charlie_says

I got that email and without seeing the thread I rang up looking to see if I could a discount just for the craic.

I was just next month coming out of the negotiated 6 month (couldn't get 9 months) and they immediately offered me 4 months which I accepted I thought aha straight to the BA forums!

After reading this I just will have to go back and battle for the 9 months half price with my 14 day cool off period.

They must hate BA people like us, but their own fault really!

Would it be correct to say that people who got the email basically had no contract with them because of this feck up and they didn't honour their end of the bargain by supplying us with a written contract?

To those of you who got a new broadband router included, what kind of improvement is it? Does it have a stronger signal?

    Got that email also..
I'm not sure what's best here.
I'm out of contract in February. If I negotiate a deal now will that involve a new 18 month contract?
Would I be better waiting until February and bargain as a new customer?

It's a new 12 month contract. You'd probably only get the same kinda deal in February as you'll get now so no time like the present I say. They might mess up again by then and we can all get more half price deals!

Have to move out of the house for 3 months due to pyrite so this was the perfect opportunity to cancel.

I did say I'd stay with them if I was offered 9 months half price on a new 12 month contract. They would not agree to this so I just cancelled.

Was a win win situation for me.

If you received the email yesterday regarding your contract, you are in a 'new' 14 day cooling off period and can cancel without the 30 day notice, more info here:
