I was watching a program earlier about Iraq and saw the Iraqi police and army at check points looking for bombs and weapons hidden in cars, vans and trucks with a hand held device, called the ADE 651.

I thought WTF is going on here?, I googled it and true enough I discovered that they did in fact use them in Iraq, and 19 other countries in the Middle East and Asia and cost up to US$60,000 each, it's basically a plastic handle with an aerial from an FM radio attached by a hinge and cost about 50c each to make, if not less.

An English business man / con artist sold them to the Iraqi government, the Afghan government and various other law enforcement agencies, the Iraqi government spent over Stg£50 million on these useless pieces of crap, it's hard to believe anybody could be taken in by such bollox, but the Iraqi's were all serious looking for explosives and weapons when bombs were going off day in and day out.

They were only banned from use in Iraq in July 2016.

    The ADE 651

This keeps happening because some people don't care about the lives of others.

    Similar case from 2013

Fraudster James McCormick has been jailed for 10 years for selling fake bomb detectors.

McCormick, 57, of Langport, Somerset perpetrated a "callous confidence trick", said the Old Bailey judge.

He is thought to have made £50m from sales of more than 7,000 of the fake devices to countries, including Iraq.

The fraud "promoted a false sense of security" and contributed to death and injury, the judge said. He also described the profit as "outrageous".

You would need to be a special brand of prick to sell fake bomb detectors to a country like Iraq.
