    You made a mistake. Proof of delivery is everything. You have none.

    Gonna backup jestea here; half is enough, as both parties are losing out on this private sale, and the buyer asked for standard post. Touch luck all round

    No, you were the supplier you were responsible for having the item delivered to the buyer. You just have to suck it up and learn from YOUR error. Proof of postage is nothing. You have no proof of receipt. €12 lost is no big issue.

    Actually you are entitled under the An Post Code of Practice...even for Standard Post...to be put back in the position you were. Check Getting it sorted on the An Post website.

    It's a joke I sold an item in adverts sent it on ..never arrived ..sent in the lost form ..an post never even acknowledged it ...if you sent it ....forget it ...it's in custody of an post ....nothing to do with you.

    The few suggestions of small claims court is ridiculous, op isn't a trader so not possible to bring them to the scc.
    I could be wrong but as the op isn't a trader then there is no law whatsoever that states he has to guarantee delivery?

    The buyer isn't going to go to court over it.
