    If your 06 car's emissions are the same as a 09 car shouldn't the tax be the same price?

    No because it changed to co2 in 2008

    So 2006 on old system anything 2008 on new tax base

    Pre July 2008 registered is based on engine size, anything registered on or after July 1st 2008 is based on emissions.

    Only if emissions rate was cheaper. I believe it wasn't "if suited", but mandatory with cars only retaining the engine size rate if cheaper than the emissions rate.
