    Howdee

After 7 good years the rear wheel on my sturdy Spesh Langster needs replacement
And since i can't find a match it looks like i'll have to replace both the front and rear wheels (mismatched wheels *shudder*)

My LBS are looking for stoopid money for what, as far as i can see, are ordinary wheels ( 190 for these: http://todayscyclist.co.uk/fixie-front.html)

So i'm looking for any recommendations for a daycent set of wheels around the 150 mark or a recommendation for a good LBS that specialises in SS/Fixies and isn't run by Dick Turpin

    Thanks in advance

Are you saying they're asking for 190 for a front wheel? What do you expect more than "ordinary wheels" to cost?

it's 190 for the pair but i can get them on the web for around 100

So i don't want to pay twice the market rate for a pair wheels

Can you? A link to that would be great, I need some. I can only find them for 125 on Planet X reduced from 205 and they're sold out.

My apologies, sir. The wheels you linked to aren't 110, they're about 120 with the nicest currency conversion rate you can get. So closer to the Planet X price, that's before sorting postage. They also don't mention which hubs they're laced to as the DP18s are only the rim. On Planet X they're laced to Miche Primato hubs, which are fine

Fair enough, you think 190 is too much for them, I'd agree, but you'll not get anything worthwhile at 150. The Dp18s are pretty much the best you can get at that price, despite how "ordinary" you deem them to be.
Anything around that price will be chinese crap. Poorly laced and weak. Try Alex Rims if you can, but they're equally crap.

Have you tried Funked Up Cycles in Newmarket Square in Dublin 8?

I got a nice set of wheesl for my fixie a while back. I can't recall what the cost but it seemed ok at the time.

Yes the website doesn't really show individual priced items but I gave them a telephone call and then called in person.

(They don't have a shop as such so you need to give them a ring first to suggest a time. They operate out of an old warehouse sort of building).

Their wheels are cheap Taiwanese crap like every other generic "Build your own fixie" brand, Foffa, Create etc. Cones too tight, often need retruing. Maybe WA had a decent experience, but if you're resolute on getting them, you could just buy off eBay.

I've not had any problems with them since I got them. I have them on my commuter and run them on solid tyres so they get more abuse than a standard tyre would give. I also regularly take them off road and they have yet to pop a spoke or go out of true with approx 4,000kms on them.

Miche xpress from velodromeshop.net about 150euro plus shipping. They also do Halo wheelset which are cheap but get OK reviews for 100euro.

The miche are great and long lasting. Anything cheaper and your just chancing your arm in my experience as to whether they will last or be worth the hassle.
