How do people rate the 7mm rem mag, thinking of purchasing one for its long range knock down power. Not bothered about ammo prices or ammo availability, can get it in bulk handy enough. Will be used on deer and the odd bit of long range paper punching.

It's not something i've seen too often.

Any reason for it over the other "big hitters" like 270 or even the 300wm?

For its size it's very mild recoil, I've heard few a few people say it's like shooting a 243 when it has a moderator fitted. Only reason I have over others is it's something different and starting to get popular amoung fellow hunters. Mainly looking for someone that has one and how are they finding it on live quarry in regards to meat damage and it's ability to buck wind down range.

I respectfully suggest that you try before you buy - 3000 fps and ~3000 ft lbs - even with the lighter 165gr bullet - is not as much like a .243 with a moderator as you might think. High velocity and high muzzle energy usually mean more than a gentle poke at the butt end.

Totally agree with you on trying before you buy. I'll track down someone with one and see if I could get a shot from it.
