Ah the m3000 was/is a lower end model, they were about £300 iirc. The poster's thousand quid would be getting him well up the range of the Hisense models.

Samsung's QLED is nothing more than a marketing gimmick. The Q stands for quantum dot, which last years KS range had. Have you seen the prices they are/were charging for these TVs? Just because the letters in QLED looks something like OLED, they decided they'd try gouge unsuspecting consumers with OLED-like prices. Now the best bit, these super new QLEDs don't perform as well as last years KS range but worst of all, they don't actually perform as well as their spec sheet would have you believe, the below video is not a joke. . .

On the Hisense range - i got the 55n5500 recently and I'm well happy with it. The interface is fast and snappy, apps like netflix lauch quicker than they do on the xbox.

I went for the 55 inch version, and I'm lucky that it fits on my tv stand (only 5mm to spare mind!)

The big litmus test for me was that herself was impressed with the picture quality on it.

    .

Yeah I need a TV with a centre stand, the legs at the edge models are too far apart for my unit

Someone else posted before that you can get narrow stands on Amazon that fit the wall mount fixtures on the back of the TV.

Yeah I had to get one from amazon. The feet on the supplied one are a meter+ apart, no chance of it fitting on the unit

    Samsung 55” MU6120K

€729 in DID today, this TV worth the money?

Just a heads up Argos are doing the 50' Model for 449 with a code TVSAVE. Get it delivered to Belfast (Parcel motel) and they will charge you 20e to ship from there. It all adds up to much cheaper than any shop in ireland is selling it for (€649)

If you're spending that much get an OLED.

Indeed, the TV that's recommended as the best going is the LG B7/C7.

Handily enough, the B7 is sold by DID for just a €100 more than that samsung you posted.

It's the TV that I'm planning on getting...... when I can afford it...... eventually...... and also when I can convince my wife......

Hoping to get one too, got a nice quote from richer sounds on here a few weeks back for one so worth giving them a shout. Have to get the house painted first before I even think if it though :(

Absolutely avoid Samsung QLEDs - at least until they take a substantial price cut. They're just edge lit LEDs with a stupid price tag. Have a look at the rtings video on how you fix the picture quality of that very model- it's not a piss-take. As mentioned, you'll get an OLED for that money.

Yeah, that's the one that I recommend a page earlier, and cheaper than DID too.

No brainer between this one and the one you previously linked. The only thing the Samsung does better is peak brightness (if you actually get one that works as specified) but that means nothing as it's edge lit and has sh!te dimming.

I think I am going to go for the LG, ,might wait a couple of weeks to see if it drops in price on Black Friday...... It could drop a couple of hundred quid in that sale,

What do you guys think of this one ?

    https://www.did.ie/samsung-7-series-55-4k-ultra-hd-flat-led-smart-tv-black-ue55mu7000txx-ue55mu7000txx-prd

I think it replaced the budget KS7000 from last year. I'm keeping an eye on it for black Friday :)

Seems pretty good. It's marketed as the 8000 in the US, so here's the rtings review.

The Q7 is the replacement for the KS7000. The KS7000 has the quantum dot tech that's behind the QLED moniker.

    The MU7000 is decent. I think it's a bit over-priced though.

The only panel I'd buy in that price bracket right now would be the Sony XE9005

    Thanks Guys,

It's a bloody minefield out there. I plan on getting the Xbox One X soon and want to upgrade my screen so I’m trying to tick all the boxes ie 10bit panel, HDR, refresh rate but the prices are still very high:mad:

I always bought Samsung in the past but reading here and other reviews online I think they have dropped the ball a bit:eek:

All you can do is to wait until end of year/early next year. If you can recall, the 49" KS7000 could be picked up for about £800 in the early part of this year. The Q7 and a lot of other makes/models will be the same - my original plan was to wait for the XE9005 to hit a grand and then pull the trigger. Considering I'm going to own the TV for the guts of 10 years, buying a 2017 model in 2018 really doesn't bother me.

And yes, Samsung have really turned a lot of people off their brand this year.

What are the tvs that are say 700 in argos or curries like.

    For example http://www.currys.ie/Product/lg-49uj634v-49-smart-4k-ultra-hd-hdr-led-tv/343533/397.0.2

Well they wont have true HDR for starters, they'll all be 8bit panels. The other thing, I tried a couple of LGs and a Sony and they all have grey uniformity issues (kinda shadows on the screen, really noticeable on sports). The LGs were the worst, the Sony was tolerable so I stuck with it, it was around €850 or so

The main issue with 4k/UHD is that it takes a lot tech and processing to produce a quality image for different types of content. With this is mind, if you go cheap with a 4k screen you're going to making a lot of compromises and ultimately end up disappointed imo.

Some of the higher end Hisense models are fairly well regarded but might just be over that budget. I've probably bored people to tears but I've said for quite some time that the lowest level I would go this year would be the Sony XE9005 - it should be around a grand come "Black Friday"/end of year/ early next.

Failing that, Sony do have some 1080P models with HDR on the market now. These would be a vary valid alternative if the budget cannot be increased.

To be honest I am really only putting out feelers and starting to get my head round all the tech speak.

I am currently rocking a 49inch LG 1080p that I got in 2011. Working fine. I could afford a grand but id rather not spend it if you get me.

I could quite happily wait a year or two before taking the plunge as am in no rush. Would you have any guess would they get much cheaper over the next say 18 months?

Same story every year, end of year/early next you will see once expensive TVs take a substantial drop in price. They're treated like phones at this stage, they just bring out a new model every year so the "old" model gets discounted - even if the old model is better than the new model (e.g. Samsung QLED)
