Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Outer flap of letterbox opening when wind is swirling?

Tried to make the thread title as innocent as possible ;)

Have a Munster joinery teak front door. Its about 12 years old. In the past six months the outer flap seems to have loosened and tends to open and bang /rattle in the wind. There's quite a gale blowing tonight and while the banging was irritating me it woke up my housemate.

Yale do things to restrict the inner flap but not the outer one. There must have been a spring of some sort but that's nowhere to be seen. Tonight I've had to tape the box closed but that's not practical. I considered glueing a weight of some sort to the inside but I'm guessing that will only make the noise worse. Is replacing the letter box my only option?

You might find one in a B&M hardware store, probably an older one. Maybe for a different purpose?

I had the same problem. The plastic torsion spring is broken.
MJ don't use a standard size so you won't find a direct replacement in any DIY or door places. I went to Munster Joinery's depot in Ballymount and got the replacement front flap for about €25 if memory serves.

It's very annoying and distracting when the tension goes out of your flaps with age, although I haven't experienced the wind swirling around problem as yet, and it's not very nice to use the back door as an alternative.

Have you considered getting your flaps tightened professionally?
A woman in work got hers done as a gift to her husband.
    he was delighted,apparently .
    so was the postman.
    but thats a different story

Sorry for digging up an old thread - did you get one to replace your munster joinery letterbox - did it fit ok?

I got a replacement from MJ last year, just give them a call with the size, there's only a small number of sizes.

Think it was under 20 Euro, but can't remember exactly.

    Very easy to replace.

Is Munster Joinery direct still the best place to get one of these?
