    Hi All
    long story short
We got work done to our house and we paid 9k but have a balance of 1k left
We have had a load of issues which ended costing us 850. We have asked to talk to the owner about getting a reduction on the final bill. He gave us 100 off.

We are not happy. Do we have to pay the invoice?. What steps can they take. We would be more than happy to explain our story to a judge or 3rd party

Stop ringing them and write an old fashioned letter to the manager or owner. Outline what went wrong and then steps you took and costs incurred to remedy things afterwards. tell them that the offer of €100 was not enough to meet your costs and ask them to reconsider.

If they did something wrong with the job that was done you should have given them the opportunity to put things right instead of throwing money at it yourself, they can refuse to deal with the issue now as you took care of it yourself.

I would imagine that the balance of the invoice is still owed and the company may take you to court or worse spread the word that you don't pay tradesmen for work done and you might find it hard to get jobs done in the future.

That is good advice, especially writing the letter stating the issues and steps taken to remedy. If you did not first ask them to remedy you may have an uphill struggle.
