Thinking of doing a ride across Ireland from east to west .

Simple as that really, any advice on starting points, routes, time scales ,thinking of 100km per day as average not intending it as race.

Prob looking at next spring .

I'm based in New ross ,so prefer starting from close to home as poss, but not all main road routes.

    Throwing it open to ideas.

Be aware that going east to west you will have the wind in your face for the majority of the journey.

Fair point ,just thought be nice to finish west side and spend bit time doing some of wild atlantic way too.

Would be better to do some of the Atlantic way then cycle back to your doorstep.
You could take in the beauty of west Cork coast and then head back to New Ross.

Why not just follow the south coast. Barring Cork city which I haven't cycled, and which you may wish to bypass, the Waterford and West Cork coastal routes are stunning.

Head for Bellmullet or Achill. . Inisteoige Kilkenny, Ballyragget, Durrow, Roscrea, Birr, Portumna, Loughrea, Athenry, Tuam.Ballinrobe, Then chose either cross the middle thru Castlebar , Bangor Erris, Bellmullett.
Or go Westport to Achill via the Greenway. You can head up thru Ballycroy on WAW to Bellmullet.

Wicklow head is the most easterly point in Ireland, it's not that far from you , Slea Head the most westerly, so maybe try that.

If you want a quiet route, then the Barrow Navigation to Robertstown /Lowtown, Grand Canal to Shannon Harbour and on to Galway on back roads via Shannonbridge.
